i still think that it was in POOR taste..

TOTAL poor taste. He's an artist - they don't like to be told what to do Chat Icon Chat Icon He reacted like an azzhole.

Had he been trying to say that he agreed that ALL TYPES of women should be on the runway, he would have put all sizes on the runway. He exploited this model, imo, to make a point...a really sh!tty point all b/c he was ******-off.

while I applaud his efforts, is this really the best choice of clothing for this model? Chat Icon

the statement could have been made with regular clothing vs. looking obscene in that get-up.

JMO

Christ Almighty she does not look obscene.

JMO = just my opinion

Thanks for the clarification Chat Icon

You can't honeslty think his point was that larger women should be on the runway too?? His point was that they DON't belong on the runway and he went about "proving" his point by putting this model in an unflattering, ill-fitting outfit. He was mocking the suggestion that anyone BUT size 0 models belong on the runway.

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

I haven't read this whole thread, but I definitely am not applauding him. He was making a point alright, but it wasn't that women of all sizes belong on the runway. I think his point was quite the opposite. And that's majorly d!ck in my opinion.

Would you make the same statement if it was a skinny or thinner model? Or are you offended because she's on the larger side?

(all the models are wearing his designs and her hair/makeup is pretty common on his runway models)

take a look at the models in the background. they are wearing regular street clothing. so to put a size 20 model among them wearing street clothing would have been sufficient. putting her in that garb makes it so wrong *IMO*

since when are people not allowed to have their own views on here? Chat Icon

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

Im going to be weird and quote myself:

If JPG really wanted to make a statement, he would have devoted an entire line of clothing to women over size 20. He didnt.

You can have any view/opinion you want.

I'm just trying to figure out what offends you and to see if you're proving JPG's point.

well said, on all counts.

to sum up how I feel - JPG is an a-hole. that model clearly has no morals. then again, that picture could end up making her career. and lastly, if you put someone that size in lingerie when everyone around her is a size 0 AND wearing street clothes, sorry, that's just wrong!

If he really wanted to support to effort to use models of all shapes and sizes, he would have put her in something flattering for her body type.

I dont necessarily agree but I think she is implying that the model sold herself out to make money and get attention

I'm not a fan of his collections either.

As far as I'm concerned, the only thing good that came from his "creative" mind was the JPG Birkin. Chat Icon

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

When I was single and heavy, I was treated as a "novelty" to date. Once I was thin, suddenly, "movie dates" were a thing of the past and guys didn't mind being seen with me in broad daylight. It felt like crap. MY POINT------>Once I saw the picture of that model, I cant help but think that JPG was THAT GUY who treated me as the novelty, but a second date wasnt going to happen. If we see that model again anytime soon on a cat walk or in a print ad, I would love to eat my own words.

Just offering a perspective.

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

A few things

1) Does JPG even make clothes in size 20?

2) It's not fair to say it's unhealthy to show size 0 or size 20 girls on the runway. You can't make assumptions about people's health.

I find it sort of offensive that people are saying "oh it's a bad example to put someone obese/anorexic on the runway"

Not all thin people are anorexic and not all "obese" people are unhealthy.

I think all body types are beautiful. I wish all designers would make clothes for people of all sizes, and show people of different sizes on the runway, it's the challenge for the designer to make the clothes look good on everyone.
