Again...how any of us could KNOW how this girl felt inside is BEYOND ME

WE CAN"T KNOW unless we knew her or was her...

So using that as a reference is kinda weak

agreed. you can't tell from her expression whether she is happy or if she is constipated.

so we don't know her, but isn't that the whole point of this thread? How did the model feel about being made a statement? There's not going to be a right answer..

No one knows either way. However she did CHOOSE to be in the shoot, and no one doesn't know that size 20 is not the norm for fashion modeling, so I don't think we need to pity her at all...
Maybe she felt great in that. Maybe she was like "w t f did I sign up for?" It's not REALLY relevent to the meaning of her inclusion in the show

agreed.

i think the original question was how do we feel about jpg including a regular size model in his runway show?

sorry i didn't think that was the point of the thread

the point i thought was..the use of the obese woman by JPG

and some point he was looking to make

NOT what the model felt about being in the show..

But that was m take

She probably made a good chunk of change doing this. So even if she is upset, she'll get over it when she gets her paycheck.

No, the point of the thread has nothing to do with the model. This thread has gone on many different directions, all far from the OP's point that JPG used a plus sized model in his show in the midst of the size 0 model ban in Europe.

he's being an azzhole with this. it is not the "good" intention some people think it is.

if so, he would have went with a "plus size" model like Mia Tyler (I think that's her name)

he thinks it will "disgust" people and they will get off the whole weight "thing" I hope it blows up right in his face.

I agree - he's just telling them that you might tell me I can't use superskinny women, but you didn't say anything about plus size women so I'm going to show you why skinny is better. I don't like what he's trying to say at all. The organizers just wanted women who look healthier, and too skinny or too heavy isn't healthy.

I agree, the approach is extreme...and from the looks of the photo, she seems to be the only one. To top it off, the only one in lingerie...so I wonder how the MODEL feels about being a statement.

sorry, guess I was stuck on this post..

I think we should all know by now that chosing to do something can have no relation as to how you feel about yourself inside

again...it is tooo subjective

and we just cannot know how she truly felt about herself..and being in the show unless you KNOW HER

Felt like a million bucks? I think she is being made fun of. No one would say that is sexy....Cellulite bulging everywhere under a too-tight maid's uniform...

I'm sorry, but I can guarantee you that SOME people find that sexy, regardless as to whether or not she is "being made fun of". People find different things sexy and for anyone to say no one would find that sexy is beyond ludicrous, closed minded, and offensive.

Re: Jean Paul Gaultier Responds to 0-sized Models

I TOTALLY AGREE

i think there are LOTS of people who find that sexy..As well as extremely thin girls...
Who can really put a limit or definition to sexy...that is a personal opinion and attraction...

i just don't feel that this is why the model is being used ...

nor do i get the "point being made"

I do not disagree with you at all, and think it would be equally offensive if someone said something similiar about a size 0 girl or a girl who was a size 4, 8, 10, 12 etc..

totally agree

i just do not think that JPG put this model in thinking she is sexy

i think it was some sad, twisted publicity stunt

and it is just my view that if having anorexic looking models is soooo terrible

sooo horrible of our society to glorify them

i thnk this is just the same..

Totally agree - you can't put a definition on sexy, no matter how hard society tries to shove the ideal down our throats - it is subjective.

I think his point was, like Chatham-Chick said, a big FU to whoever it was that was trying to suggest that designer's be told what model size they can and cannot use; that size 0 models should be eliminated.

Personally I think the size ZERO should be eliminated - it's incredibly offensive. It's not even a NUMBER! Chat Icon

=====
My original eye roll was at the fact that the thread was being taken into a direction so far from the original point. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinions - try to keep it relevant to the topic being posted on though.

Just MY $.02

while I applaud his efforts, is this really the best choice of clothing for this model? Chat Icon

the statement could have been made with regular clothing vs. looking obscene in that get-up.
