Kidney stone

Just got diagnosed with a kidney stone. My first IVF cycle is any day now.

The pain I had this am before I went to
Hospital was unbearable

Re: Kidney stone

How long did it take you to pass it. Was it painful? I don't think anything can be worse then the pain I felt today

the stone can be in the process of passing before you even feel it. When the stone moves you dont feel it, only when its stuck do you feel it.

The last bout over a week to pass, I had pain on and off. To be honest, I think it passed, but I never found it so Im not 100% sure at this point I just assume its gone.

I can pass up to 3 times a year, only once before did it last 7-10 days, I was in and out of the hospital all week, then ended up with surgery.

Usually, I pass them within 24 hrs. of the start of pain

To help pass, aside from drinking fluids, jumping jacks help force it out:)
FM is you have more questions :)

Re: Kidney stone

Do you have a urologist?

I hate to say it but I would wait for it to pass before starting your IvF. If it doesn't come out, you may need surgery. And won't be able to. I had one right before my ivf and both my RE and urologist had me wait. And I unfortunately had to get surgery for the stone.

please ask your Dr before doing anything. You'll need an X-ray or Ct scan to see where it is, how big it is , etc

Sorry. I know this is not what you want to hear

Re: Kidney stone

I had a cat scan yesterday. It was diagnosed as a 3mm stone. About half the size of a grain of rice

Even a 3 can cause infection and block the flow of urine. And that's not good (the one I had surgery on was a 6)

If you're pregnant, and the stone causes an issue - they put a stent in you. Until you give birth. Urine has to be able to drain freely. I was also told there are pregnant women who need an external stent with urine bag for the length of their pregnancy. They told me all do this bc I am very prone to them and I had to be prepared (pregnancy hormones cause higher rate of stones)

I'm not being a jerk. just make sure your RE and urologist are on the same page before going forward.

I wish you the best. I hope it passes quickly

Re: Kidney stone

I can't describe it, but I always knew when I was passing a stone. Kind of like a moment of "pressure" but not pain.
