LIPA balance billing...
i think most people do it - i don't. i like to know exactly how much i'm using / spending every month.

I do it; it's nice to have a faxed amount to pay each month. Plus each month on the back of the bill they let you know if you have overpaid or underpaid.

Same here. I do balanced billing for all of my bills because I'm not in a situation where I can pay COD for oil in the winter or $350+ per month for electricity in the summer. I much prefer to pay less over time.

Yes, with central air, it's better for us to do balanced billing and spread the cost out over the course of the year.

i do! we have central air and the pool running in the warm months....no way we want to be hit with that huge bill a couple months in a row!!

I don't. I hated paying at the beginning or end of our annual cycle when we had no balance. At the same time, it's rough getting that bill for $600 or $800!
ETA- Oops, totally wasn't thinking LIPA when I answered this! Obviously we don't have a 600 electric bill, I was thinking oil! We do not have balanced billing for LIPA either though.

i don't.
we ave oil heat so we have high oil bills in the winter and high LIPA in the summer, so it balances out.

We have it... we tried without it and got a ridiculous large bill.... after going back and forth, we decided to stay on it. Im always cold and turning the heat on and during the Summer, hes always hot and turning the AC on lol

Really? They offered it to me & we have it. We haven't even moved into the house yet. Still renovating. Maybe the rules have changed? I only have it since July.

You don't need to live in the house for a year BUT they will be basing it on the useage if the previous owners. They do, and will readjust the bill every year, but you can request it after 6 months if you call and explain the situation to them.
To answer you original question- yes, I do balanced billing for LIPA (I do it for oil as well) it is easier for us to be able to budget that way. I am a SAHM, so the more predictable our bills are the better.

We don't. We have central air and oil heat so like a previous poster, we have high electric bills in the summer and high heating bills in the winter and it balances out.
DH hates the idea of giving LIPA any of our money in advance!

We don't either.
we had a high summer bill $500 for aug. central air going then this past month it was $90.00 we could of done balance billing but we like to see exactly what it is every month

Yes, I have balanced billing. If you are using much more than your "budget" they will raise it as they see fit, and before a year is up. That way you don't get stuck with a huge bill at the end of your 12 months.

Totally agree. It balances itself out. I would hate paying for my ac bill in the winter and my oil bill in the summer. In the end you pay the same.

I started out with actual and quickly changed over to balanced. I have all electric so when I moved into my new home during the winter, I was hit with hugeee bills. Now the estimated monthly payment is very doable and it's nice to not get a surprise. They will adjust it if needed. Like I went up $20 for me between this month and last. No biggie. And you DO know what you actually spent for the month. Your bill outlines it for you. You just pay a balanced fee instead. I've never been hit with a huge bill at the end of the yr. they are pretty spot on at least for us.
