If you are not planning on having kids then don't worry about the SD.

Resale in a town with a bad SD will not be good...

They are not all on the water. That was the only one I gave more detail about...

Oh ok. I looked at two of them and the two I saw said waterfront.

HMM These dont look two cheap.... maybe you guys have ALOT of money and that is why you say the houses there are all low priced Refer to MLS Number 2207864 and 2187236 oh and just for kicks, one on the water 2250761

Your logic is flawed. Just because there are a couple of nice houses on the water doesn't mean the area as a whole isn't crappy.

Mine is? I think you should look in the mirror since you are generalizing an entire location because of some issues. Give me a break.

Some issues? There is gang violence, a large amount of sex offenders, a less than desirable school district, higher crime and poverty in that area. While there may be some parts that are nice, but the area AS A WHOLE is not somewhere I would want to live.

Most of the times people are helpful and nice. I've met some very nice people on here. But we all have opinions... and ya know what they say about those.

and those first 2 have been on the market a long time and that's just assuming that is the first lisiting of them

2207864=177 days
2187236=247 days

I have a good friend who just moved out of the area. Her car insuance dropped $200 a year by moving into a "better" area as the insurance company put it

its just not though, there is not gang violence in kings park or smithtown. I dont know why you are so fiercely defending the town, its just a fact of life, there are some not so nice towns....it is what it is.

Come on.... lets not be naive here. Are you honestly going to sit here and say that Mastic/Shirley has the same amount of gang violence (and all that other stuff) as every other neighborhood in Long Island? Really? (insert a facepalm emotion here)

If so that has to be the most ridiculous point I have EVER read on this forum.

I'll give you a hint... Mastic/Shirley has WAY more. The school district is probably one of the worst on all of Long Island. It's not even close. If you don't believe me... think about this for a second. I can't even name 10 districts on Long Island that would be considered "worse" than WF. I might even have trouble naming 5, WF being so bad.

(ok cue in the different people look for different aspects reply)

Re: Mastic Beach, Shirley & Mastic Residents?

argue this: suffolk county executives actually have a task force in place called Operation Impact, which is a public safety initiative (BECAUSE OF shirley/mastic residents concerns).

Oh, I am VERY open minded and VERY aware of these towns and have experience with them. My dh's family used to live there until they moved to another town in another state that NYers consider "mastic". Other family still lives there and I have been there recently.

I wouldn't say any of us are nasty and hostile. We are WELL aware of the situation in these towns.
Can you answer my questions that I asked before? I know you saw them because you made fun of my grammar.
Thanks :)

In all seriousness, why so hostile? Why resort to name calling? She isnt making stuff up, it is just fact, there is an actual suffolk county safety intiative task force in place specifically for the Shirely/Mastic area set up by Steve Levy to address the SAFETY/CRIME/VIOLENCE concerns OF MASTICS RESIDENTS.

Re: Mastic Beach, Shirley & Mastic Residents?

This is a good one Chat Icon

Anyone who thinks that Shirley/ Mastic is NOT a rough and less than desireable town is blind or lying to themselves to make themselves feel better. That is NOT to say that some people live there and might be content or even happy with their choice.

People have different ideas as to what makes a town desireable or not but I do not think we can argue the fact there there are MANY issues with these towns. There has been issues there for years and will probably have issues for years to come.

Kim specifically asked about the towns because she is looking to buy a home. Why buy a home in a town that has so many problems, bad school district, bad resell value, etc.

Stop taking all the comments to heart, no one is saying that all the people who live there are filthy, terrible people. I am sure there are wonderful people there I just would not buy there.
