Moms of 2 or more: How Much Quicker Was Your Second Labor?
I keep hearing stories of second labors being much quicker than the first. Was yours quicker? By how much? Thanks!

Re: Moms of 2 or more: How Much Quicker Was Your Second Labor?
First labor was 14 hours from the time my water broke, followed by contractions later until delivery. About 1.5 hours of pushing.
My second labor was about 1.5 from the time I started having contractions until the time she was born. I only did a 1/2 push & she was out.
What I found (and read later) that the 2nd labors often have more painful Braxton Hicks in the 3rd trimester because your body is prepping for labor, which causes shorter deliveries.

First labor was 9 hours Second labor was 4 hours
Both were from beginning of contractions to delivery. My water was broken by the doctors in the hospital.

Re: Moms of 2 or more: How Much Quicker Was Your Second Labor?
I am so scared over this. I actually just had this conversation with my mom yesterday b/c I'm in panic mode over the possibility of it being too quick. My first labor was a little over 4 hours but I didn't realize it was real labor until an hour or so before I delivered. My mom wants me to ask my MD for induction to control the situation, but I really want to go natural again.

I agree.
My friend delivered her first in 20 minutes from start to finish. For her second, they opted for induction & it took 5 hours (pitocin to start labor, epidural to deal with the pain of the pitocin which ultimately slowed labor). For her 3rd, the minute she knew she was in labor, she headed to the hospital and had him with in an hour.

Re: Moms of 2 or more: How Much Quicker Was Your Second Labor?
first labor was 6-7 hours.
second labor was hard to tell - was having mild contractions for a few hours which were probably early labor... and then i did the active labor phase plus delivery in less than 5 minutes

See that's why I don't want to induce since I've heard nothing but stories that it makes a delivery worse. Hopefully, like you guys said, I'm more in tune this round and won't opt for any laboring at home - just get Ryan to wherever he needs to be and myself to the hopsital (at which point, my luck, I'll probably be a fingertip dilated )

Jessee, remember we had almost identical deliveries???? OK, you can be the guinea pig and let me know how it goes....no induction, you'll be fine!

I just reread your birth story. You first knew something was up at 5AM and got to the hospital by 11, having him by 2PM. At least you knew ***** was happening to you and had a good 9 hours to let it sink in. I felt off around 6AM I got to the hospital by 10AM and had him at 10:24AM Moral of the story - I'm clueless. I wouldn't be so freaked out if DH's parents weren't going to be away for the 2 wks surrounding my due date, making me s crewed to figure out what to do with Ryan when this all goes down.
Poor Gavin though, I forgot the cord was wrapped around his neck - how freaking scary

I was induced with both babies. With Hannah, labor was 8 hours and I pushed for 2 hours. With Ryan, I was in labor for 6 hours and pushed for about 10 minutes....

Thanks for starting this thread, I was wondering myself. My first was 7 hours, so hopefully I will go quicker with this one if she ever decides to show up.

Re: Moms of 2 or more: How Much Quicker Was Your Second Labor?
First : Induced at 8:30am, had him at 9:51 pm. So 13 hours
Second induced at 8:30am had him at 5:53. a bit over 9 hours.
First time I pushed 5 minutes. Second time 10 minutes.
But this time around was way easier...only had an epidural in for an hour, and honestly when they broke my water everything quickly happened right after...

Re: Moms of 2 or more: How Much Quicker Was Your Second Labor?
1st labor- 21 hours & then it ended in a c-section.
2nd labor- 25 hours including 30 minutes of pushing ending in a VBAC.
So for me I guess in a way it was true. The first time I only made it 3cm in 21 hours. I think at this point I deserve to have my next child fall out.

Thanks for the responses! I hope I don't end up delivering at home the way some people's second labors went!
