[ My other question is if they recommend it, then why do so few Mohel's use it?
I really do not know much about this but my guess would be that only MDs could actually use it since it is an injected anesthetic. Any mohel who does not have an MD would probably be more limited in the stuff they could use versus an actual MD - KWIM? That would be my best guess.

Re: Moms of boys - circumcision question
We had a bris. About 45 minute to an hour before the bris, we had to apply Emla cream to numb the area.

agreed. Only the Mohels that are docs can use this. The other mohels cannot use this because they don't have the credentials to do so.
Jen, it is really has to do with what you are comfortable with. Then again this mohel or other mohels might not be able to do the bris depending on timing.
I would have a list of of 3 and put them in order of your preference and go from there..
FYI:I remember asking my brother at the time of Jacob's bris if it was alright to have anesthesia and he assured me at that time it was the best way to go.

Re: Moms of boys - circumcision question
I emailed the pediatric urologist that I will be using and he said they inject lidocaine before the procedure to numb the area
this makes me feel a BIT better about it
