Moms of Boys - Potty Training
At what age did you start Potty Training?
And at what age was your DS fully trained (not including night)
What made you start training? Was it age, interest, etc?
If your DS Is not yet trained, when do you plan on starting? Thanks!

Re: Moms of Boys - Potty Training
DS #1 was just past his 3rd bday. DS #2 was a couple months before his 3rd bday. I tried more with my older one earlier on - maybe when he was 2 1/2 and we tried so many things and he wasn't ready. When he did it, he trained so fast. With my younger son I didn't try anything except every now and again suggesting it and one day he said yes and trained right away.

Re: Moms of Boys - Potty Training
my son was 1 month shy of three when he started and he took to it immediately. I told him that the store doesn't make his diapers any more so he had to go on the potty. we "borrowed" some diapers form my his grandmothr's house for night time (which we are still using - not sure how to stop nighttime). we first started him peeing in a red cup (one of those party plastic cups) i know it sounds wierd but he was excited to do it so i just went with it. for about 2 weeks we left a red cup in every bathroom :) good luck

At what age did you start Potty Training?
DS#1 - tried when he turned 2 yrs but he wasn't interested. When he was around 2.5 yrs he started tell us when he had to go.
DS#2 - around 2 yrs and he was

DS#1 - 32 months or so
DS#2 - 27 months
What made you start training? Was it age, interest, etc?
DS#1 - He was in daycare that they were taking all the kids to potty. At home we really didn't enforce, but then the teacher asked us to try and he took on.
DS#2 - His babysitter started putting on a pair of shorts (no diaper) while he was there to start training when he was about 22 months. He goes there only 2 days a week so it wasn't consistent. When I tried at home he would have accidents. Shortly after his 2nd bday, he started telling us when he had to go. Then we just started putting underwear on him during the day.

Re: Moms of Boys - Potty Training
DS turned 3 in April and I started August 4th and by the 2nd week of Sept. he was fully day trained with pee and poo and telling me or going on his own. I think I am going to bite the bullet once this pack of pull ups is done and do the night time because is waking up dry a few times a week now.
I did try a few time and it was difficult. Then in July he was getting really bad diaper rashes because he would poop and not tell me. We went away for 4 days and I told him when we got back home he was going into underwear. I printed out a Thomas the Train potty sticker chart and we picked out stickers and I used a sticker chart. It worked and within a week he was accident free. Pooping took about 4 weeks after he started training before he would go on the toilet. I used twizzlers for his pooping reward because the stickers weren't cutting it.

Re: Moms of Boys - Potty Training
My plan is to not try until next summer -he will be turning three.
If he shows interest in it before then, then of course I will try - but I highly doubt it.

Re: Moms of Boys - Potty Training
DS was about 18/19 mos - started following me into the bathroom and then he wanted to sit on the potty. He doesn't do anything. I take his diaper off most of the time unless i'm really tired or running late.
He hasn't done anything yet but I guess its some interest.
I spoke to his teacher today - he said it was early and he doesn't show any signs at school, but the teachers have a bathroom outside the class so they don't see them go in there.
Good luck!!

Re: Moms of Boys - Potty Training
DS#1 At what age did you start Potty Training? A couple weeks before his 3rd birthday he said he wanted to wear undies forever (he had gone in the pooty a bunch of times peepee - around 2.5 and then he once he pooped the next morning announced he wanted undies forever)
And at what age was your DS fully trained (not including night) Right around 3
What made you start training? Was it age, interest, etc? We just talked about it a lot, his age was getting close and he was ready on his own to do it.
If your DS Is not yet trained, when do you plan on starting? DS#2 is not trained. He turned 2 in July. Since mid-August he has been pee'ing in the potty first thing in the morning most mornings I allow him to run without a diaper. He'd probably train if I had time to push it but I am in no rush - diapers are easy to me. He rarely has accidents if I leave a diaper off of him so I think he is ready. My initial plan was to hope to have him trained around 2.5 so he will be trained a full 6 mos before he'll start preschool at 3 if possible...but not sure if I am letting my opportunity to go if I don't do it now. If it keeps up and time allows - I may try sooner.

Re: Moms of Boys - Potty Training
I started with DS before he was 3 years old. He is 3 now and he shows signs of wanting to go on the potty. Some days are better than others with using it.

Re: Moms of Boys - Potty Training
I was lazy with potty training. With Robbie I kind of just tried on and off from the time he was around 13 months or so. He never showed a lot of interest and I never really pushed it. He was (I think) about 2.5 when I finally had enough. I told him that he needed to start wearing big boy pants and pulled out a calendar and showed him the day we were on and then pointed to the day we were going to have an underwear party (it was like 3 days away). I told him that on THAT day he would have to put on big boy pants and no more diapers. He surprised me by pulling off his diaper right then and there! And that was it. He never looked back.
NoNo was even easier. He just started emulating his brother and basically potty trained himself by the time he was probably 18 months old!
