Moms who had PPD

I really think I'm dealing with some PPD. I feel like such a bad mom for feeling like this Chat Icon I have a beautiful, HEALTHY DD who I love to pieces, but I can't help but feel sad. I have an appointment with my ob/gyn in two weeks and will discuss it with him then. In the meantime, what can I do to make myself feel better? I hate feeling down especially when I have SO much to be happy about.

Re: Moms who had PPD

I had PPD twice.

Please don't feel guilty- its is NOT your fault. It is in illness- an illness that is completely curable.

I'm going to FM you.Chat Icon

Re: Moms who had PPD

I had it with both kids too, and mine went undiagnosed for a year after my 2nd...

it is curable, and it's not your fault.

In the meantime, try to get out everyday. I used to make a detailed plan for everyday, and i'd feel so much better when i was able to cross things off.
Mine would look like this.
-Wake up, feed DD
-eat breakfast
-play with girls
11am put them down for naps and get dressed
-12 pm up from naps
1230 eat lunch
1pm-go for walk, run errands
and so on..

It seems menial but it works..

Can you talk to your OB now or see him/her sooner? I would see if you can move the appt. up. Also ask them to test your blood, sometimes thyroids get wacky after giving birth and that can make you depressed also. But the treatment is different.

I would also say do the following:

Take a walk every day, even if it's short. A drive is good also, but a walk is better--I think physical activity helps and so does sunshine.

Eat as well as you can, try to avoid alcohol and junk food, especially sugary stuff.

See if you can see a friend soon--invite people overe your house if you can't go out yet.

Try to get as much sleep as possible, which is a joke in the early months. But talk to SO and see if he can handle some feedings.

REally try not to do much right now. If the laundry piles up, it piles up. If the house gets messy, so its messy. You can catch up when you feel better.

Good luck!
