Buried (after donating whatever organs I can). I don't feel comfortable with cremation. One reason (which I admit is just emotional not logical), is because the whole process of cremation just makes me uncomfortable, I mean I took a class on death and dying and they went through the whole process- yes, I guess my body rotting away under the ground doesn't sound great either, but just the idea that most of your body tissue is just vaporized so you're really only leaving the bones, which then have to be pulverized so they look more like "ashes," plus they may get mixed in with the remains of the casket and/or other people's remains, well it just doesn't sit well with me.

Another reason is that as a Catholic I know that the church does not support cremation- I know after Vatican II they now allow it, but still it's discouraged- and even now that they do condone it, the Church still requires that you bury the ashes, not keep them or scatter them.

One persons cremated remains would have minimal, if any at all, of another persons in them. The retort is swept clean after each use.

Ok thanksChat Icon, I know you know more than the priest who taught my class (plus this was almost 10 years ago so my memory could have failed meChat Icon )), I will edit that part out so noone else gets any wrong info from my post. Like I said though, it's mostly because of my religion plus just a personal feeling- I know it's really common and I'm sure in the future as plots fill up it'll become even more popular.

I like the idea of continuing the cycle of life, so I'd like to be buried.

Me too!

Re: Morbid question

I want to be buried. Cremation totally creeps me out. My husband wants to be cremated & scatered in Ireland. I told him him 1/2 of him is being buried & the other 1/2 can be scattered.

The whole body, or just the head?

Or the body without the head, since it's pretty much useless anyway... External Image Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Morbid question

Cremation all the way! The thought of my body decomposing in the ground and wasting money on a plot and a casket is too much. Funeral costs are enough, just bake me and toss my ashes in the ocean since I love the ocean....

I also believe in organ donation. They can take anything that's usable. If I can save one or more lives, then so be it. I can't use the organs if I am dead!

No....memory probably did not fail you! People who are not in that business have a lot of misconceptions!!

PLUS.....a priest 10 years ago teaching about that would have done anything to persuade people to not cremate!!

Re: Morbid question

Buried. With as little pomp and circumstance as possible.

ETA:
DH and I currently have 2 already purchased sets of graves for us to choose from. One came with membership to a fraternal organization of which he is a member. My ILs also purchased a family plot for all of their children, spouses and future spouses (or anyone else) who may need them. We are covered.

Re: Morbid question

You are absolutely right. That is what my dad did with my mom, this past year. It is exactly what I am planning to do.

FYI............you can still donate everything and STILL have a viewing............then cremation after. Some people don't know that.

Re: Morbid question

I guess I am alone on this one....

I want my body to be donated to science. I can't use my body anymore, so I hope someone would be able to learn from it.

I think I decided this when I was like 15 and I still feel this way.

Re: Morbid question

I never thought about it until my God Mother died. She was cremated and they had a beautiful service for her at a funeral home. Just pictures everywhere and people sharing memories.

I think that I would like to donate my body to science. That way I could help young doctors learn.

As for a wake, I want a big party in an Irish Bar. Music, alcohol, food and people sharing memories.

Cremation

We had our son cremated since that is what both DH and I want. We're just not sure yet if we want to have all of our ashes scattered somewhere legally together someday or bury the ashes together.....

Arrange it ahead of time. When we have had people decide last minute, they are turned down for a variety of reasons. Call Stony Brook Hospital as they have aprogram for this!
