Need tips for taking baby in pool at party 2 hours away

We're going to a family party upstate and they have an inground pool. We have a 10 month old DS.

Can you help me look like I know what I'm doing in front of DS's family? Lol. I'm so not seasoned at sun and swim baby care!!!

1. When should I put sunblock on him? When we get him dressed in morning, before we leave our house, when we get there, right before we go in water?

2. At what point do I dress him in his rash guard/ bathing suit and swim diaper? (Same options as above)

3. How often should we reapply sunblock?

4. Any tips for applying sunblock? I HATE doing it and always feel like I'm missing spots...

5. How often do you check/change swim diaper?

6. What happens if, God forbid, he goes poopie while in the pool? (Besides the fact that I'd die! It's my biggest fear! Well, not BIGGEST.) Do swim diapers really do their job at containing everything?

7. What do I do when he's done swimming? I can't exactly give him a bath there, right? So, do I do anything to rinse the chlorine off him and his hair before we dress him for the car ride home?

Any other "pro" advice would be appreciated, too! TIA!

Swim diapers do NOT contain pee, they hold in poop ONLY. The biggestest misconception is they trap pee in it, if it did, the shimmy would expand and explode like a diaper.

With that said...

Sunblock him throughout the day, before going into the water, after the water, or every 3-4 hours

He can wear his suit all day with a reg diaper and when you want to go into the water put a swimmy on him.

As for the bath, I use whoevers bathtub right before we go home.. I will hose him down, not a full blown bath, but put them under the shower, etc.

Most kids will not poop in the pool... I never used a swimmy on dd before she was potty trained.

1. When should I put sunblock on him? When we get him dressed in morning, before we leave our house, when we get there, right before we go in water?

*put the sunblock on him when you get to the party. He should have it on since he will be outside, regardless of him goimg in the pool or not. Cover all areas expossed to the sun. When he goes in the pool i would make sure to reapply if its been an hr or so.

2. At what point do I dress him in his rash guard/ bathing suit and swim diaper? (Same options as above)

*Put him in his swim attire right before you are going to go in the pool

3. How often should we reapply sunblock?

*i would do it ever hr or so bc the sun has been really strong. Be sure to keep him hydrated as well.

4. Any tips for applying sunblock? I HATE doing it and always feel like I'm missing spots...

*just do a section at a time

5. How often do you check/change swim diaper?

*He is only 10 months, he probably will not be in the pool very long. When you get out with him and he isnt going back in with in a few minutes. I would change him into reg diaper. Swim diapers do not hold pee pee.

6. What happens if, God forbid, he goes poopie while in the pool? (Besides the fact that I'd die! It's my biggest fear! Well, not BIGGEST.) Do swim diapers really do their job at containing everything?

* the swim diaper will contain the poop but it
Is annoying to change it since they slip on like underwear and not tape on the sides.

7. What do I do when he's done swimming? I can't exactly give him a bath there, right? So, do I do anything to rinse the chlorine off him and his hair before we dress him for the car ride home?

*if you are concerned about the chlorine on skin i would take him into bathroom after swimming and wipe him down with some water but bathe at home

1. and 3. I apply sunblock before I leave the house to go somewhere. It should have at least 1/2 hour to soak in. I reapply every 1 hour.

2. I usually dress DS in his bathing suit and rashguard with a regular diaper. When I get to where I'm going I change him into a swimmy diaper. I learned my lesson after thinking he would be alright in a swimmy diaper for the five minute drive to the pool and he peed all over his carseat. Chat Icon

4. Just take your time with the sunblock. Do one body part at a time.

5. I would not be too worried about the swimmy diaper. It is only going to hold in poo so you shouldnt go crazy checking it.

6. I have only had one blow out in a swimmy diaper and that was because DS ate way too much fruitChat Icon If he goes poo, just change him. (I just rip the swimmy diaper off, I do not bother pulling it down).

7. I have never washed DS down after swimming.

I wouldn't put the rash guard on before a 2 hour drive. They tend to be hot and trap heat and mositure inside. My DS who has terrible eczema also has an issue with long term rash guard wear. I'd at least put a t shirt on him for the ride. .

1. When should I put sunblock on him? When we get him dressed in morning, before we leave our house, when we get there, right before we go in water?

I would put sunblock on before you leave YOUR house, again as soon as you get to where you're going (assuming you'll be outside the whole time) and after he dries off out of the pool.

2. At what point do I dress him in his rash guard/ bathing suit and swim diaper? (Same options as above)

Get him dressed RIGHT before you go in the pool. Swim diapers don't hold any liquid.

3. How often should we reapply sunblock?

See above. I'd reapply often - every hour, 90 minutes, maybe?

4. Any tips for applying sunblock? I HATE doing it and always feel like I'm missing spots...

Just do your best. It's hard. I usually do the first layer when they have NOTHING on, that way I know I get it everywhere, especially where their bathing suits would end.

5. How often do you check/change swim diaper?

Change him if he poops. The swim diapers don't hold urine.

6. What happens if, God forbid, he goes poopie while in the pool? (Besides the fact that I'd die! It's my biggest fear! Well, not BIGGEST.) Do swim diapers really do their job at containing everything?

See above. In my experience, swim diapers DO do the job in this area. Thank God.

7. What do I do when he's done swimming? I can't exactly give him a bath there, right? So, do I do anything to rinse the chlorine off him and his hair before we dress him for the car ride home?

Dry him off and change him. Give him a bath when he gets home. Nothing you can do about the chlorine, and honestly, Inever even thought about it.

AND, this is important:
Don't stress too much and have fun!!

Swim diapers are actually designed with tear away sides. Just rip the blue stretchy part and then it works like a regular diaper.

You can totally tell when they pee. It drops right out. So I would change his diaper right before the Pool and as soon as you get out.

Sunblock a little bit before going in and right after they dry. And evry 1-2 hr depending on if you are in the sun.

Seimsuit right before you go in. I like dd to be dressed to parties and change when needed
