Re: new moms -- how many date nights have you gone on so far?
I'm NOT a new mom but can probably calculate how many date nights we've had since March 2008
Honestly, we probably go out alone for dinner, MAYBE every other month. I would say 5x/yr.
But date night doesn't necessarily have to be "out". Taking in dinner and designating it a date night (what does that meal - food, alcohol and sex??) can happen without looking for a sitter
ETS: I have spent the night away from my kids ONCE. Our 5-yr anniversary (this past October) we went to a hotel in FL while the boys we're with the ILs (literally like 10-minutes away). We're a couple of crazy kids, I know

Re: new moms -- how many date nights have you gone on so far?
This is really sad, its actually my resolution that has to change.... DS is 14 mos old and we've gone out 0 times!!!
Part of the reason is that we really don't have anyone to watch DS. The only ppl that we're comfortable with my IL's live 1.5 hrs away

wow! is it weird to go out on date nights a lot??
all of our friends with kids have always gone out on 2-3 date nights a month... i thought that was the norm?
maybe not?
I spend 45 hours a week away from her at work so I really don't feel like leaving her yet. Makes me sad and DH feels the same way
i know i know, its not healthy blah blah blah but for us, we are happy with it!
That is sort of how we feel. I work anywhere from 45-60 hours a week so any time I have free I want to be with her. My DH feels the same way. Actually for his birthday we had my mom all lined up to babysit her so we could go out and he called and said he wanted all of us (baby and my mom included) as he did not want to spend time away from her. I told him "people" say we should have time alone and his response was you know you want her to come with us. Which I did. I know we should spend more time alone but I am sure that will come with time. She is great when we take her out so its not bad at all.
To answer the question DD is 5.5 months and we have been out 5 times (2 were weddings, 1 was a concert and 2 were date nights). Actually not that bad when I count it.
LOL same exact thing happened to us - we took his mom and DD to his brithday dinner!
But I wasnt so nice for mine, it was just the two of us!

We went away for our anniversary when the boys were 11 months old. I NEEDED a vacation. I needed to sleep in, have lots of sex, go out to dinner every night, read a book...all the things you do on vacation that I hadn't done since they were born. Honestly, I just needed to get away from them (who I love more than life, by the way) for a few days and recharge, and spend quality time with DH.
I won't lie, I knew I wanted to get away but as soon as I clicked "purchase tickets" I started panicking that we were going for too many days and that I would miss them too much. BUT, it was the perfect amount of time, my parents stayed at my house with the boys and they all had a blast. It was great for all of us and we plan to continue doing it every year.

my mom kidnaps DS, and makes DH take me out
eta: We went on a mini vacation when DS was 2m, left him with my mom. I was miserable and cried the entire first day. The second day I had some fun. (I pumped BM the entire time)

Re: new moms -- how many date nights have you gone on so far?
Not a new mom (DS's 2 & 10mnth) but we've only been out may be 4 times. Twice was a date night and 2 times 40th bday party & wedding.
We have a lot of family but they have their own children and can't really help out. So we finally broke down and hired a babysitter last week. We will be making a point to have 1 date night a month

I just went on one this past weekend DD is 18 months old I can count on one hand how many date nights we have had!!
Us too (minus going out last weekend!). I think we had to go to two weddings, and then maybe 3 lunches or movies (we like to put DS to bed, so nothing at night other than movies). It works for us--we watch movies after he goes to bed, and both work so don't want to miss out on time w/ DS.

I think whatever is right for you as a couple is healthy! DH and I also don't NEED to be without DS as much as many people do. I see how happy DS is when we are the ones to put him to bed, and nothing is more important to me than that. There will come a time when he's older and might want to go to grandparent's for a night, but til then, we're fine having dates in the living room while he's asleep!

Re: new moms -- how many date nights have you gone on so far?
We take DS everywhere with us, but this Friday will be the first time we are leaving him with a sitter and going out with a large group for dinner.
Sooooo nervous, but I know it's something we have to do and it's healthy for DH and I to get out alone.
DS is 3 1/2 months.
If it works out, I think we will make it a habit and go out once a month or so alone.

The boys are 7.5 months and we went out 2X (both for weddings). We have not gone out on our own yet. We've had the chance to, but still prefer to have the kids w/ us.

Funny that the whole family went out for his birthday too! I hear you on wanting to go out alone for you birthday. My birthday is 10 days before DD turns one, I feel like by that time I will be finishing up BFing and will definitely be ready for an alone dinner with DH!!! My mom can watch DD! :)

Re: new moms -- how many date nights have you gone on so far?
DS is almost 16 months and we've gone out a lot. My parents watch him at least one full weekend each month with the occasional night thrown in here or there.
It's a nice, much needed break sometimes. Usually after those wekends, DH and I feel reconnected, rejuvenated and reuinted.

Re: new moms -- how many date nights have you gone on so far?
DS is 11 months old and we haven't been on too many date nights. Our schedule makes it hard some times. We wanted to go out to dinner for DH's birthday in December but there literally was no free night to go. We had 2 Christmas parties and a wedding - all of which we went to without DS.

Re: new moms -- how many date nights have you gone on so far?
DS is 13 months and I could count on one hand the number of times we have gone out without him. We went to the city to see a show once. My in-laws kept him overnight a few weeks ago because we had an adults-only cocktail party at our house. That's about it.
We probably should try to get out alone more, but we are both full-time working parents and enjoy spending time with DS. We bring him everywhere with us, on vacation, to restaurants. We brought him to Vegas at 10 months and we are doing Hawaii in March with him.
To be honest, I feel like going out 3 times a month without him would be excessive for me. I am a parent now. We were married for 6 years before having DS. We had our time to be a couple alone and we enjoyed it. Now we need to be a family.

Re: new moms -- how many date nights have you gone on so far?
DS Is 14 mo. we were away in october just before his 1st bday for SIL's wedding. we were gone 2 days w/o DS. He was traumatized for a few days..LOL.
before that I think we went to the movies 1x by ourselves.
this year, its our goal to go out 1x a mo now w/o him. We're looking for a sitter (im hoping one of DS daycare teachers babysits) for a few hours on a sat. evening.
we will also be taking a boston trip labor day weekend without DS.
