North Fork Crash
This is a terrible story!! Just horrific! I actually knew of 3 different groups of girls who had limos yesterday to go to the vineyards. This really hit close to home bc this could have been any of us. It was supposed to be a joyous occasion! Fun wedding festivities! Terrible! Reminds me a little of that horrific story a few years ago with the limo coming home from the wedding on LI that was hit and the flower girl tragically died. Just awful

Every single day on my way to work (I commute on Jericho) I feel like I'm playing a video game on how to avoid death. Between people who don't signal and just stop short, to everyone whose trying to cut me off, drift into my lane, or just smash into my car I can't take it anymore!
It was so much safer when I commuted on the parkway. This story is just so sad. It's something me and my friends have done countless times. These girls are so young and had so much to live for.
I agree. I say a silent prayer every time we get into the car to go anywhere. A lot of people on the roads just don't give a shit. Scary, people's lives can be destroyed in an instant.
I am so heartbroken for all of the families involved.

Sounds like it may have been the actual wedding not the bachelorette party. All the girls were in black party dresses. All were 24-25. Horrible.
I wonder why it said wedding when everywhere else said bachelorette party and they were leaving the place, not going there so where was the groom. Don't think it was the actual wedding and it is just horrible all around [/QUOTE
The title of this article says bachelorette party as well.]

Just saw another article that said it wasn't a bachelorette party and they were just friends. Either way it's horrific. They were all only 23-24 with their whole lives ahead of them. And they did the responsible thing in getting the limo and in horrific irony were killed by a drunk driver.

I can't stop thinking about these girls. I feel almost obsessed. It was supposed to be such a happy day, and for it to end like this is such a tragedy. Prayers for them and for their families.

Re: North Fork Crash
As per the comments from a hospital worker, they were celebrating a birthday.
The deceased victims have been identified as Brittany Schulman, 23, of Smithtown; Lauren Baruch, 24, of Smithtown; Amy Grabina, 23, of Commack; and Stephanie Belli, 23, of Kings Park.

Four more women in the limo were hospitalized, and News 12 is told that two of them suffered serious injuries. The surviving women in the limo have been identified as Joelle Dimonte, 25, of Elwood; Melissa Crai, 23, of Scarsdale; Alicia Arundel, 24, of Setauket; and Olga Lipets, 24, of Brooklyn.
The limousine driver, 58-year-old Carlos Pino, of Bethpage, was hospitalized.
The pickup truck driver, 55-year-old Steven Romeo, of Southold, was also hospitalized. He was arraigned on DWI charges Sunday at the hospital. He was ordered held on $500,000 cash bail or $1,000,000 bond.
Romeo is due to appear in court on July 24.
The Suffolk Times reports that Romeo co-owns Romeo Dimon Marine, a boat services company based in Southold.
Reports indicate that the limousine had just left Vineyard 48, a popular winery, when the crash happened.
The crash closed Route 48 from Mattituck to Southold for several hours Saturday. The road is one of the main North Fork thoroughfares.

The limo driver holds some fault in this also. He was making a u-turn from my understanding at a blinking light, where oncoming traffic doesn't stop. Tragic all around :(

Re: North Fork Crash
I'm so sick over this. My cousins gf was supposed to go with these girls this weekend but a work event came up and she couldn't make it. I'm so happy she is ok but so sad that she lost 3 of her best friends. I'm praying for these families. Everything I have heard about these girls today was that they were all wonderful people. Many prayers for the girls families and friends.

I met the school district psychologist at an event tonight. She knew some of the girls. She called the principal today, as she is not sure if any of the girls have siblings still in school that might need counseling. She wanted to be ready in case. It is very sad

I was wondering why he was making a U-turn especially with a car that long.

Re: North Fork Crash
I can barely even post about this, that is how upsetting.
Hits very, very close to home for me. Too close on so many levels.
Every summer, multiple times, these crimes occur where someone else could have chosen a million other options but instead they chose to drive and a good person or persons had to pay for that decision with their live(s).
I love my career but people like the driver in this situation are the reason I have a career and THAT makes me hate it at the same time. And my brother loved his career before a drunk driver made it so he couldn't do it anymore... And his career had so much to do with removing people like that driver from the road before they hurt or killed innocent people. He misses it everyday. It was ninety percent of what he did out on the road at work.
Prayers and condolences to those lost and their loved ones.
Many prayers and good wishes to those injured that they may recover and be physically well again. Lord knows the emotional health will never be the same after this.
