Praying for everyone involved.

I just read that the drunk was charged with misdemeanor DUI with possible other charges pending. Hopefully that will be raised or added to.

What will it take before we punish all DUI's with a permanent loss of a license and mandatory jail time?

What will it take before we say no more???

ughh..shouldnt he be charged with vehicular homicide?? JFC he killed 4 people. I hope it gets raised b/c misdemeanor DUI does not seem fitting at all.

My girlfriends and I were out last month and we hired car (just like these girls) to relax. It's terrible that that isn't even safe. Given the rise in popularity of going to the vineyards for girls weekend away and bachelorette parties, I hope the police will start setting up check points or something to reign in drunk driving. Such a tragedy.

I can't stop thinking about this. My sister got a DUI in May. Her car rolled over 3 times. She is so lucky it was just her in the car and no one else got hurt. And she literally walked over with just a few broken ribs. But I can't stand her attitude now. She really thinks she will get off of the charge. I don't want her life ruined but I also don't want to think it is okay. She says she won't drink but I feel like once you've made a decision like that it is hard to change unless you really change your lifestyle. She was 3x times over the limit! And I see pictures of her drinking on Facebook! What if she hit someone or had a friend in the car.

I'm so sorry for these girls families and I hope the driver of the trunk of the prosecuted.

I cannot stand reading about these drunk drivers hitting people/killing people... ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DON'T F'N DRINK AND DRIVE. PERIOD.
GET A F'N CAB. GET A DESIGNATED DRIVER. EVERYONE IN THE WORLD KNOWS BY NOW THAT DRINKING IMPAIRS YOUR ABILITY TO DRIVE.

He should be charged for murder x 4!!!!! Although, I'm sure he'll get a slap on a wrist.

I can only hope that this becomes the catalyst for a change to the law, that they are charged with murder, or attempted murder....every.single.time. someone gets pulled over or in an accident while under the influence.

There is barely a penalty for DWI/DUI - not enough to keep people from doing it.

I pray for these families.

I don't understand how someone who willingly drinks and then gets behind the wheel and kills someone doesn't get charged with murder but then you have people who have documented mental illnesses that greatly contribute to their crimes and they get thrown behind bars for a long time or life when if we had a better mental health system the crime may not have happened in the first place. But you know, someone who goes to the bar and drinks themselves into a near blackout isn't responsible for what they did.

I can't stop thinking this. I also don't understand how you have to pretty much actually kill someone to be charged with anything remotely scary. Once you drive like that it's pretty much just luck as o whether or not you kill someone.

How can we change the laws? We will look back on this as a country one day with humiliation.

I'm sure the charges will be upgraded. It's the same as murder imo. Your vehicle is a weapon at that point. Disgusting. Selfish. And words I can't say on here.

North Fork Crash

I haven't (and still can't) find the words regarding this tragedy. I am so sorry for all that knew these girls.

This is my happy place, I go out there regularly with DH and DS, and friends, we spend a day at the wineries (we pick 1 and stay all day). The idea that this could have happened to us with DS in the car makes me sick. I agree with the others, he should absolutely get manslaughter at the very least.

I remember the limo accident years ago, they are my cousins (Father's cousins). It was very hard on the family, and yet, no on one changes.

Just this morning, driving to work, I was at a red light when someone in a van couldn't wait to turn left that they drove on the right of me up on the curb, driving on the corner house's lawn (yes in a residential neighborhood). Scared the living crap out of me, I was so glad I had already dropped off DS. There is a daycare right up the block and homes all around, someone could have easily been hidden and hit.

The way people drive lately (let's just put drunk driver's aside for a second) is truly frightening.
Nobody can wait. Everyone is in a rush. Speeding, tailgating, doing what you said where they drive up on curbs, shoulders etc, to get around you or beat a light.
Everyone is in such a rush. Selfish @ssholes. It's all about THEM. Me, me me.
I cannot STAND aggressive drivers. Like the ones who weave in and out of rush hour traffic, like they are playing a game of frogger, to get one car ahead, then go in the next lane to get another car ahead. Driving fast and aggressive like that. It infuriates me when I see that.
The roads are just getting worse. Scary, scary place.

Sadly this crash won't change anything. I think it was almost 10 years to the month that that family was hit head on and that little girl was decapitated on the Meadowbrook because of a drunk driver and what has changed? Nothing. I'm so disgusted.

Why aren't penalties harsher for DWI's? Are there pro-drunk driving lobbyists?? And I'm asking seriously...how does this work? Why isn't anything changing? None of us are safe and it feels like no one in a position to do anything about it cares.

There better be a lot of charges added to that, it makes no f'in sense to just be charged with DUI. However, as another poster said, he may just walk away with a slap on the wrist.
