Re: Not sure if this was posted - J Crew ad... Thoughts?

my boy cousin walked around with orange nails, his favorite color, his mom either gave in to him wanting it, or thought it was fun

He grew up, came out of the closet, and joined the navy.. I know the nails have nothing to do with it, but he's the first thing that comes to mind when I see that.

I'm not the type to have issue with things like that, I just rather not think about it till I have to

Just being honest

I wouldn't suggest it but if he wanted to, sure. DH would not approve though.

Totally agree

I'd have ZERO problem if my ds wanted his nails to match mine during our playdate

Did anyone else notice the orange bottle of nail polish in this picture that is not Essie? It's bothering me.

Re: Not sure if this was posted - J Crew ad... Thoughts?

For me, I will let my son express himself in whatever way he wants. If he wants to wear nail polish, fine I'll comply. Do I think it's wrong or right... who am I to suppress who he is or will become?

I don't think I will tell him what's wrong or right concerning gender roles. I played with both boys toys and girls toys. I loved my cars and trucks and as an adult I still love them. I like a lot of things normally geared towards men but society doesn't find anything wrong with that, when it's the opposite... total uproar.

My first reaction is this mom (if she is the mom) is trying too hard to make her son "cool." The glasses, the long hair, the pink polish. What is this kid...4? This has probably a lot more to do with the parents' agenda than it does the kid's...

Yep, ITA

While I wouldn't do it to my sons I see nothing wrong with other moms allowing their sons to paint their nails. I highly doubt that pink (or any color) toe polish is going to make him gay or anything else. He will still be the typical little boy except he is rocking toe polish. Who's it hurting?

I've seen many UFC fighters with their toenails painted black.

And what about all the rockstars with painted fingernails, why is it ok for them, but not a little kid?

I'm ok with it, he's just expressing himself.

LOL was just thinking the same.. how MANY teenage boys have I seen with nail polish? Mind you, not pink but meh whatever.

Now followup, if she had pierced his ears would it be ok?

I've seen little boys with pierced ears (both) and think "WOW, I can't even do AJ's!" LOL but to each their own. It didn't really bother me until my aunt (much older of course) sniffed at it and ridiculed the mom.

I am not a mommy to boy and I know being that I have a DD I'm sure if I had a boy next she would influence him in the things that he plays with being that she's older....however I would not encourage painting toes mommy/son time would consist of something else...JMO

If josh ever asked for it...I guess I would go along with it...but he would be in socks that weekChat Icon

sometimes he asks about my makeup, so i let him put it on me...i guess i would do that with nails as well...but he's never asked.

I would want him to know he can come to me with any thoughts he ever has and I don't want to turn him away for being a boy...but I do hope it never comes up.

I agree. As much as Im not going to stop DS from playing with dolls (bc it may be considered girly), I will never be painting my sons toenails. That is something women do to make themselves look pretty it is the same to me as wearing dresses. I am not going to have my son try them on.

I think it is a wierd ad.

Everyone knows that if you polish your nails you must be very effeminate....

Hey, if that's what she does with her DS, then so be it. At least she's spending time with her DS. That's the important thing....

Whatever. If my DS asked me to paint his toenails I would do it for him. I don't really see an issue with it. What is going to happen to him?

Re: Not sure if this was posted - J Crew ad... Thoughts?

i think its a tad ridiculous the hoopla being made over it. so what..he likes to have toenails painted. no different from a boy wanting to play with a girls doll. My little cousin went through a phase with wanting his sisters ariel doll all the time.

as kids, we put rollers in my friends little cousin's hair. and i think they dressed my brother up once too..LOL.

is it something I would do personally..no, unless DS wanted to experiment and see what it was like to have toes like mommy. My DH would probably die, but he's a tad homophobic with these things.

I personally wouldn't paint my son's nails - I'm not comfortable with that

but that ad doesn't really bother me.

I don't get it, or the reasoning FOR it (what are you trying to say/prove and why? - it's a CLOTHING store KWIM)

but I wouldn't abuse another Mom for being ok w/ it -

My immediate thoughts were that the color of the nail polish was horrid, and I would not put that color on myself or my child.

I see nothing wrong with this. I find more wrong with people seeing this as a problem, or trying to make it something its not. Its 2011, a little nail polish on your sons toes isnt going to make him gay, lighten up people.
