He doesn't care and never has! But if it isn't bad enough to cancel school why cancel field trips?

Re: NYC Schools OPEN!
Every school surrounding NYC is closed. Most private schools in NYC are closed but public schools are open?? I hate him. I can't go in because my kids daycare is closed. Oh and even if I could go in....NONE of my students are going to show up anyway!

I have the same. Hour long. South Shore to North Shore. That job is not worth my life! I hope no one gets hurt teacher or student because after what happened with the Dec 26th storm if something happened he better be running off to Bermuda because people are going to be after him.

Re: NYC Schools OPEN!
Always the same announcement too...It's very bad out we have declared a snow emergency. Only essential emergency vehicles should be on the roads. Oh and schools are definetely open!

Unless my street gets plowed soon, I'm not going in. I'm so angry. I work in a preschool. There will be no kids!

Ugh. And we HAD a field trip planned for today. I told the kids to expect school but no trip...hopefully that keeps some of them at home because I won't be there.

Re: NYC Schools OPEN!
I'm actually going to attempt it...My school is only 2 miles down the road. DH just went to clean my car off since I only have about 6 days in my bank and he is staying home with DS... I said that if I so much as slip once driving I'm turning around and coming home. I live and work in D. 26 - right by the Nassau Border...he really needs someone to send him a picture to see that these roads don't look anything like Times Square does this morning....It's an entire city system not just urban areas...there is a lot of residential places too!!!!

Re: NYC Schools OPEN!
How much snow is out there? I'm in eastern Queens and it only looks like 6 inches and it stopped snowing. I have no idea wha the streets look like though. I know people have to travel far, especially teachers.

That would be nice and would make sense, but when does the NYCDOE do anything rational???

I'm not a teacher but WOW he's a moron! Is he trying to prove a point that "his streets" are cleared this time?? Does he realize that not all teachers live in NYC???

Re: NYC Schools OPEN!
I know this has been said before on most of these threads, but this is not a Bloomberg thing, it is not his master plan to force teachers to commute in. NYC schools are rarely if ever cancelled. Ask anyone who grew up in the city, recently or even our parents ages, several of whom have already posted the same thing, they rarely close. Does it make it more difficult for teachers that live outside of the city? Yes, but this is not news and not Bloomberg, it's the city, that's it.

I went to NYC schools and I work in them now.
I know they never/rarely close. Does not mean it is safe or a good decision.

While I agree with you that it may not always be the safest for those coming in, I just think, regardless of anyone's feelings about Bloomberg, it should not be painted as "his" doing. What's "his" point, and what is "he" trying to prove, and what is "he" thinking, etc. This is/was/pretty much always has been the way the city has run for years and years and years, long before Bloomberg was ever in the picture...it's nothing new and not "his" idea. That's all I'm saying. I hope everyone has a safe commute in to whatever town they're going to and whatever job they're going to do.

With all due respect, last year we had 2 snow days - for LESS snow.
I don't think it's a coincidence that schools are open after the doozey of a snowstorm that happened 2 weeks ago. This is definitely partly political.
You should SEE my school in the Bronx. The roads are UNSAFE.
