NYPD Officer Brian Moore, shot in Queens, has passed away-
Looks like all the major local news networks are showing it.
I got married in that church.

I keep thinking of them. I couldn't imagine how they feel about all the media there. I feel like it's such a personal thing becoming so very public.
Seeing so many people there is beautiful to me.

I grew up in N. Massapequa and graduated from Plainedge High School and I am SO proud of my hometown in the way they have come together and supported one another. It's so beautiful to see a community come together in the way they that did.
I'm watching the coverage too and I am in awe of how many people are there, I think it's so amazing to see how much support is being given to this family. My heart breaks for them, it's such a sad, sad day.

The support in the community has been beautiful to see. I walk/drive down any street and the sea of blue ribbons has been overwhelming.

Priest was excellent.
I am not a religious person but would absolutely attend his services. So much of what he said moved me to tears.

Me personally, I wouldn't care for it. The media should NOT have been in the church, just my personal opinion. If that was my family, I would not want them in there. It just seems like it becomes a bit of a circus for these funerals and for ME, if it was MY family member, I would be very upset with that.

This is the never-ending conundrum.
When you are IN it... as I have been, not with death but with "the public eye" because of Ken's injury and being all over the news... We felt the same way before he was hurt. We are private, we keep things in our family, etc. And when he got hurt it was such a personal time of suffering and sadness and worry and on and on...
BUT THEN - then people start coming. They come from all over. People you have never met, some you know, some you haven't seen in years... strangers and loved ones alike. And you feel this "responsibility", for lack of a better term, to share what you can with them because you can see and feel how much they care and how much their hearts are breaking.
And part of you, as crazy as this sounds, you WANT people to care about your loved one and to feel for them -- you want people, especially with a death, to never forget them -- so when news outlets approach you about covering things you almost feel like you should so that you can "allow" the people who care and who have shown support to be involved and to grieve and to be present.
It is such a weird thing to go through and there are so many things, after everything went down, that I never ever thought I would have done prior to -- and even now, when the media wants to do update stories on Kenneth we feel like yeah, we should let them do it -- because afterwards people will come to us and say, omg I'm so glad to have read that update on Ken, I was wondering how he was doing! And then you are like wow, people give a darn. And that touches you and it makes you feel better.
Gosh it's never easy!

Me too - the blue bows all over town, the vigil on the football field, all of the kids, and staff going to school in blue today, the porch lights, the flags. it's a heartbreaking reason for a community to come together, but it's uplifting to be reminded of where you come from, and what your community is capable of. I don't doubt that everyone will continue to do whatever we can think of to support his family -

I got the goosebumps when they showed the line of officers waiting and you see ALL blue and then you see the white of their gloves go up to salute, in waves, slowly as the hearse passes.

I agree with Nell; perhaps even more passionately. My husband is NYPD, and we talk about this a lot. I am a very private person and in no way would I ever want something like this if he were to die LoD. I would never want the NYPD running my loved ones funeral, would never want 30,000 strangers there and would never ever ever ever want the media there. I would not appreciate the pomp and circumstance. He knows how I feel and agrees with me. But to each his own, of course. If this helps the family even just a little bit, then it is all worth it. I just keep thinking how horrible it is for them to have to do this in the public eye. I pray every night for them to find peace... I can't begin to imagine their pain. And as selfish as it is, every time another NYPD is killed LoD, i pray even harder for my DHs last three years to go by quickly and safely.
Prayers for the Moore family.

I'ts funny you say this. DH is retired now, thank God, but used to tell me all the time that God forbid he was ever killed LOD, he did NOT want a police funeral and did NOT want to buried in his uniform. Truth was, he hated his job, hated the way he was treated as NYPD by the city, the mayor etc and hated everything about it. He was very adamant about his wishes on that. I thought we were on the only ones.

That's terrible.
And very true for many of them. I have tons of friends that feel this way. It is such a shame. One of the reasons my brother left for Nassau. It's just a really awful reality.

Are we married to the same person??? I could have written, verbatim, that about my husbands feelings (well, unfortunately minus the already retired part).
I am still thinking about this poor kids family. My heart breaks for them. I truly hope they find the strength to move on from this senseless loss of a very young man. As a parent, It just doesn't seem natural to have to bury your child for any reason.

I agree with you. I kind of feel bad for thinking that way because on the other hand it's beautiful that so many people WANT to be involved and show their support.
