FYI -- Farmingdale Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, FRIDAY May 8th, due to PO Moore's Funeral Services.

I'm not sure about surrounding districts but my sister works in Farmingdale and just told me.

Oh wow I wonder if other SD's will follow suit. I know that my nieces' pre-k is closed tomorrow, and they go to a pre-k located in Plainedge Middle School. So far no word on a closing at my DS school though.

My coworkers kids go to school in plainedge. After care has been cancelled for today and she also said one of the elementary schools is also closed tomorrow. I want to say West since that's closest to the funeral home and church.

Probably because they have to close a lot of roads in the area for the funeral. There is going to be TONS and TONS of people, cops etc.
It might be very hard to get the kids to school

Yes, I live in Plainedge. John West Elementary school is closed tomorrow because it's across the street from the funeral home. As far as I know all other schools in the district are open.

Something about the buses not being able to get through.

I didn't pay as much attention to why. Chat Icon

I just read this. That's amazing. I'm hoping his family feels the love from everyone. It's like a big hug from 30,000 people.

Farmindale schools are being used by NYPD for officers to park and they are going to shuttle them over. J.H. West school in Plainedge is being used for parking as well as possible helicopter landing. I live a block away from the church and it is absolutely crazy and amazing over here right now. This young PO is definitely getting one amazing send off.

I hate to even say this, because it's just awful, but I have been to NINE police funerals... in only about six years. Nine. Ugh it's just horrible. But, NO ONE... and I mean NO ONE does a funeral the way the police department does. It is filled with so much elegance, pomp and circumstance but done in such a classy way... It is literally breathtaking. It gives you spine-tingling chills from the moment it starts to the finish.

The drumming, the silence as they march and all you hear are the taps of the drums and the swift shuffle of their feet all in formation.

The clip-clopping of the horses, the bagpipes, the formation of helicopters flying over head.

The fact that there could be literally 30,000 people in one area and you could HEAR A PIN DROP when there are parts that call for silence.

The line of police - all in a straight, perfect row, that cover the streets - a sea of blue for as far as the eye can see. It just goes into the horizon. It is so special and beyond deserving.

After a while I had to stop going. If another Nassau officer, GOD FORBID, were to pass away I would go - don't get me wrong, but for a while going to them - so many in only a few short years, it gets to be so upsetting, so heartbreaking that it literally makes me sick for days. It's just too emotional. While the way that they do things are so special and beautiful and touching -- the sadness that comes over you cannot be described. It's crippling.

One officer in particular, he had three young sons, and when they brought them into the church following his coffin -- and the youngest boy was wearing his father's police hat. THAT moment, I just sobbed. And I'll live a hundred years and never forget it. And you look around and see hundreds of police sobbing too and it just becomes more than you can bear. Chat Icon

This is so beautifully said, and so true.

Unfortunately, I went to a funeral for a friend of my DH's a few weeks ago (he was a detective) and it was POWERFUL. I never experienced anything like that in my life.
