What is everyone planning to put their newborn in to sleep? I've gone back and forth between bassinets and pack and play like sleepers. I can't decide. The baby will be in our room for the first few months. What are your plans?

I'm going skip the bassinet and roll with the pack-n-play I think. I am hoping we can move him into the nursery relatively quickly, but it all depends on how fast we can get him sleeping through the night - on that front I'm taking any and all recommendations! I know some use the rock n play, too.

My plan as of now is pack and play in the living room and bassinet in my bedroom. I'm hoping he can transition into the crib sooner than later.

My grandpa built a cradle that all the babies have slept in. DS1 was in it for a few weeks- we moved him to his own crib at 5 weeks. I think we will do the same for this baby! We will keep him in our room for 4-5 weeks and then move him. I have a Pack'n'play that we kept downstairs for DS1, but never used except for the changing station- don't know if I'll set it up again or just do a changing table downstairs for this one!

Not quite sure how long baby will be in our room, bc she'll be sharing a room with our older DD. She'll sleep in the rock n play for the first few months probably.

It's awesome, but one of the reasons we moved Reid so soon! It has knobs that pull out on both sides that make it go from stationary to rocking. Reid was a 9lb baby who quickly gained weight! He was so heavy that when he moved around he would unlodge the knobs and roll! Hoping Henry is a little smaller, but moving him early anyway!!!!

BTDT moms, my step mother said something about 10 pounds being the weight at which it was easiest to get my sister to sleep through the night, would you agree with that?

Bigger babies tend to sleep better, but I don't think there is a magic weight. Most babies will be around 10lbs when they are 2 months old and they generally start sleeping through the night then. I had a whopper - 9lbs at birth. He was 12-13lbs around 2 months and then started sleeping through the night. I think it takes time unless you get lucky. My friend's baby slept through the night as soon as he got home from the hospital. She lucked out!

At 99 days!!!!! I feel like this is going so much quicker than my first! I'm just over 3 months left!!!! We haven't even started on his room - by this time with DS1, we were basically done with his room and just anticipating his arrival!

Aaah! Chat Icon I'm still at 116 but that fact that anyone here is in double digits just gave me anxiety! Thankfully we don't have a lot to do, the biggest thing will be getting DD into a toddler bed so we can free up the crib. Mentally I'm not ready at all! We got together with a bunch of out of town friends last night and everyone was asking me about the baby and I had nothing to tell them. I feel like I've been so busy and distracted that it's hardly even on my radar. Hopefully in another month when things calm down I'll finally realize that I'm really pregnant.Chat Icon

We registered at Babies R Us and are going to either do target or Buy Buy Baby for the second one. The problem with Buy Buy Baby is that we don't live close to one, its actually really annoying to get to. I've only been to the one in Huntington once and wasn't all that thrilled with it. But I know everyone likes it because you can use BBB coupons there. When I mentioned BRU and Target three people asked me "Why not BBBaby" I'm not sure what my question is lol. Can I skip BBbaby and just do BRU and Target or will people be put off by it?

We actually are skipping BRU and going with BBB (we found more there and people can use the 20% off coupon) and amazon (I think). We haven't been impressed with what BRU has been offering lately.

You can skip whatever you want! I think with certain stores you can actually purchase the items anywhere and then just mark them as purchased on the store's website, not sure about BRU though.

Don't worry about what other people think and register where you want! If you don't want to travel to BBB to register you certainly won't want to go there a bunch of times to return or exchange things right before and after the baby comes. I only registered at BRU and nobody said a word. If people are that picky about what they buy you they probably won't stick to the registry anyway. I hate when I get gifts for DD at stores that are not close by bc if they don't fit or I don't really like them they sit unused bc I don't want to be bothered to return them.

I registered for a few things at bbb but most of my registry was bru. Most people bought from bru because there isn't really a bbb close to me. Bru has 20% coupons too. The couponers will find them!!! You can do whatever you want!!!

I started registering at BBB. I live in between Huntington and Westbury BBB so its convenient for me and I like the selection. When people register at BRUS I always have trouble finding the items. I will probably register on Amazon too. Register wherever is good for you. People will make it happen!

Questions:

What furniture set did you get? From where? I looked at BBB and Beahrs.

Did you register for a convertible car seat? If so which one? Why?

What bottles did you use and like if you already have a DC? What bottles did you register for?

Diaper bag? I liked one online but just saw it in store and wasn't a fan.

Did you register for a thermometer? If so, what kind?

Thanks- more questions to come...

ITA with this. One registry fine, wherever is most convenient for you. I only registered at BRU and have no regrets about not registering at more than 1 store.

What furniture set did you get? From where? We didn't go the traditional nursery route. We ordered a Graco crib and a dresser from IKEA.

Did you register for a convertible car seat? If so which one? Why? I didn't register for a convertible car seat bc it's not needed right away.

What bottles did you use and like if you already have a DC? What bottles did you register for? I used the Playtex DropIns with my first and will again for this baby. So easy to use and clean!

Diaper bag? I think the one I have is a JJ Cole. DH picked out something he'd feel comfortable carrying around too. It wasn't that important to me.

Did you register for a thermometer? If so, what kind? You'll need a rectal thermometer the first few months at least. I like the Vicks one.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm not planning on registering for a converible car seat right now but sinc eI'm not going super crazy with my registry I figured if towards the end almost everything is bought then I would put it on. What car seat did you use with your DC? So many choices out there!

The rectal thermometer totally tramatized me. I totally remember my parents using it on me....I guess I was a toddler. I was hoping to use something else with my DS but seems like thats the best one. AHHH.

DH picked his guy diaper bag so thats good. I want something thats functional and looks decent. I don't want like teddy bears on the diaper bag...ha. I thought I would like this skip hop one but then I tried it out today in store and it was awkward.
