Ok or not - Starbucks - asking for a grande coffee in a venti cup?
I was in Starbucks and I overheard a woman ask for a grande coffee in a venti cup. She then proceeded to complain they put "too little" in the cup. Ok or not ok?

not ok. You want a venti cup, buy a venti.

I can see if they want to add a lot of cream and don't want to lose coffee, but I still don't think it's okay. They should either have a policy they won't do it, or give her a grande in a grande cup and then give her an extra venti cup she can pour it into.

It's fine to ask for it because some people add their own stuff in.
As long as it's a grande size in a venti cup she shouldn't complain. Otherwise, I see no reason why she should be shorted coffee.

The reason people do this is they pay for less.
Basically, you get a small drink in a big cup. You pay for the Latte, lets say 2.00 for the small in the big cup.
If you got a big in a big cup its $3.00.
So they get the small, and go to the mile bar and fill it with "free" milk.
Its a way to pay less and get more.
Gross.

Not always. My mom orders a grande, gets a grande, but has to dump a 1/4 of it out b/c she likes half and half. If she had a grande size in a bigger cup, she wouldn't have to, but like I said above, I can see problems arising so they either shouldn't do it, or offer an extra empty cup.

Re: Ok or not - Starbucks - asking for a grande coffee in a venti cup?
I have ordered a tall coffee in a grande cup every day for a year at least. It's fine, they don't mind at all - they only fill it up enough to the "tall" amount. I never complain because that is what I WANT. I add a lot of cream and I hate having it spill over so I have to dump and waste coffee. If I ordered and paid for a grande, then dumped out a bunch, I'd be paying for a grande and getting a tall, KWIM?

I'm with you...I do this regularly. They put too much coffee in to accomodate the amount of milk I add. It is strong coffee! They never have a problem when I ask and I could care less if anyone thinks it's wrong. It's better than dumping coffee

I love when people make silly assumptions
I do it whenever I go to Starbux and it's not because I am trying to hoard "free" milk. And, I couldn't care less about the 50 cents I save-that's just stupid.
I order a grande americano is a venti cup. I only like coffee with a lot of skim milk. If I order a Venti I have to dump a lot of it out-that seems wasteful. Whenever I ask them to not fill it up all the way, they do anyway.
What would you recommend I do so that I can be less "gross"

Re: Ok or not - Starbucks - asking for a grande coffee in a venti cup?
sometimes when i get iced tea i ask for a grande in a venti cup, but thats to put xtra ice in it. SO they charge me for the grande in the venti with xtra ice.
but coffee..no, if i wanted a venti, i'd order a venti..or ask to leave room for creamer/milk.

This is very easily resolved by simply saying "leave room for milk".
How is the barista supposed to know how much "tall" coffee goes in a "grande" cup? And if they stand there figuring it out, then ppl will complain they take too long.

Re: Ok or not - Starbucks - asking for a grande coffee in a venti cup?
I always get my Grande Iced Coffee in a Venti Cup. I add ice and cream when I get to work. They never mind - they even say to me when I come in if I want my regular. If you complain about it, then it's not ok.
If I don't get a refill w/ my gold card later in the day, I wash it and use it for iced tea as well.

I have done this a million times and 999,999 of those times they do NOT leave room for milk. I am reluctant to dump coffee out because I also get flavored syrup (and pay for it) and when I dump it, out goes the syrup!
I can't believe people think it's rude to do this, it never even crossed my mind. On Monday I am totally going to ask the baristas what they think about this.

This thread is yet another reason I rarely frequent Starbucks.
I didn't realize there were so many ways to order coffee, yet alone "etiquette" behind it.

That never works, most of the time they don't leave room for milk after you have asked them to . I have even tried asking twice , to make sure they do it and they don't To answer the OP I don't see anything wrong with asking for a grande coffee in a venti cup, people do it all the time. I do think it's silly that she was annoyed though.

On Monday I am totally going to ask the baristas what they think about this. I have asked few and they are totally fine with it.

My friend orders a grande in a venti cup all of the time so she can add a lot of milk. I see no problem with that.

This is not why I order a Tall in a Grande cup. I'm not out to save the $.60 that I am saving. It's not that big of a deal.
And people are doing this for free milk??? Really????
The reason why I order a tall in a grande cup is because I like to get extra foam, and it doesn't taste right when they put extra foam in the right cup.
I don't think this is gross, and it doesn't seem to bother the baristas, if anything my order would bother them more then my choice of cups.
You don't go to Starbucks for "free milk"
