Re: Paying for a $6 dollar maincure on a credit card?

I tried to do it once, but the lady in the nail place said that they wouldnt accept a credit card for under a certain amount..I forget what the amount was. I had to run out to the ATM.

Re: Paying for a $6 dollar maincure on a credit card?

Unless I realized that I only had my cc after the manicure was getting done, I would not due it. Like the PP's mentioned debit cards- yes. Unfortunately I use my debit card for about 98% of things. Some people must think that I use a credit card to pay for $5 bc when they ask me credit or debit I say credit so that I can get pointsChat Icon

why the argument?

Jus tasking a simple question.

I saw a young girl use a credit card to pay for her maincuare today.

Then I wathced her pull a $5 dollar bill out of her wallet for the tip.

My point was, if you really don't have $6 bucks for a manicure, don't get one.

The reason why vendors always try to pressure us to use debit is so that they dont have to pay the merchant fees if we use credit. I mean that sucks for them but like you, I dont like putting my pin everywhere.

If you are someone that doesnt carry cash and pays your credit card in full every month - then sure

My sister charges everything because she gets points or sky miles or whatever and then pays the whole bill

Re: Paying for a $6 dollar maincure on a credit card?

i haven't on a credit card, but i have on a debit card and then used what little cash i have had for the tip. my nail place does not allow you to add the tip to the card.

so perhaps that's what was going on at your salon. she had the cash for tip, but not enough to cover the whole service.

i see that point, but this was a young girl in HS. I'm assuming it wasn't even her card. It just seems like a bad habit to get into.

for my account, at a credit union, i have a "cue" card (i.e., atm card that does not have a visa/mc logo on it), and then I have a debit card that does have a logo. b/c i'm lazy, i have NEVER memorized my pin for my debit card (while I easily memorized the pin for the cue card). so whenever I use the debit card, and I have to tell the merchant to put it through as credit. doesn't matter where it is or for how little the amount, that card goes through as credit. so perhaps that's what was going on here. unlikely but anything is possible.

i do agree that it is, at a young age, a bad habit to get into. but anyone regardless of age can get into trouble with credit cards.

well, the following post talked about debit vs credit...

in regards to the tip, i try to leave a cash tip because you write it in, you never know what happens unles you check your charges often or a place doesn't have a line item for a tip.

what i'm trying to say is money is money. they come in all different flavors..

why should people feel bad for paying for a small amount on credit...some people pay there balance in full every month, some do it for points, some hate carry cash, and so on.

that is what i was saying by asking questions..

the point I was getting at was if you really don't have $6 on you to get a manicuare, then don't get one.

why charge it?

Yes, you and me would pay it off right away.

But I think whipping out the card for every little thing is a bad idea and can get you into a lot of trouble.

I've been there, I know.

I have done it, I hardly ever have cash on me. I use my debit card as credit. I don't see the big deal.

Well, i'm not here to agure.. its comes down to "Responsibility" and knowing what can happen..

While you think its a bad idea, some that pay there card off in full, monitor there transactions and they are happy...

I understand what you are saying but not everybody is responsible and think about how daily actions will effect them down the road..

to add, you started a thread to get a response..

This was my point. I really don't think she saw th ebig deal. And maybe it's not to some people, but I don't think I could charge $6 for a manicure. Gas or something I needed for my DD, absolutely, but my nails, never.

i was looking for ideas on this, just to see what others think.
