and what is the difference if its credit or debit?

how does it matter the payment of choice?

i for one rarly carry cash on me.

if i have to go to cvs and buy a pack of gum...guess how i'm gonna pay?

why the argument?

Jus tasking a simple question.

I saw a young girl use a credit card to pay for her maincuare today.

Then I wathced her pull a $5 dollar bill out of her wallet for the tip.

My point was, if you really don't have $6 bucks for a manicure, don't get one.

I am not sure what you are trying to say. That she does not have the money? Or that you should not use a credit card under a certain dollar amount?

I don't see the problem using a CC for any purchase if the vendor accepts them.

I charge almost everything. I keep track of all my purchases. I don't pay until the end of the month. I can track fraudulent purchases BEFORE the money leaves my account. I feel it's "safer" than carrying too much cash on me. I pay it off every month.

I probably would pay cash for $6.00 but maybe she realized she needed cash for something else and decided to charge the manicure.

whoa. I never thought this would take the turn it did.

It kind of surprised me to see someone charging a manicure. Just seems silly to me.

But I see that many people do it too.

Again, it took me by surprise and wanted to see what others thought.

ONCE AGAIN...you dont know she charged it? Was probably a debit card....

I would. I also get points for my charges and I don't carry a balance.

I put everything on my credit card and then just pay it off at the end of the month.

maybe, but she said I can use a credit card, right?" unless she calls her debit card a credit card, which I know some people do.

it doesn't make a difference to me one way or the other. I'm not arguing this. I jus tpointed out an observation to see what others thought.

I see all sides of it now.

I would.

I never carry cash, everything goes on the card and gets paid at the end of the month. We collect points with our card and actually got our last trip to Disney for free this way.

I'll tell you why I do this. I have cards linked to 6% interest bearing checking accounts. I need to make 10 CC transacations a month to get my 6% interest.

So because I *DO* have a lot more than $1.50 in the bank (for my 6% interest account), I put these stupid little transactions on my credit card to meet the monthly requirements.

hello... please share where you get 6% interest on a checking account please

Re: Paying for a $6 dollar maincure on a credit card?

I know someone who believes using a card is the worst thing to do, no matter if you pay it off or its debit. They believe cash is the answer to everything.
They have never in their entire life swiped a card at a store, restaurant, food shopping etc.
They carry cash everywhere
They go to the gas station, they have to go inside, leave the money, fill up and then go back in to pay difference or get money back.
Its highly annoying, as i was with them one day when they did this and it was raining...and i was like just use a card at the pump, it saves so much time.

Me and DH use our Cards for everything, we use our debit and credit cards. DH uses his amex gold card so much he cashed in the points recently and got me $1250 dollars to Bloomingdales. Now tell me how you can get that much back using cash!

Re: Paying for a $6 dollar maincure on a credit card?

I always use my credit card for everything unless it's not accepted, because I get 1% back on all my purchases and that goes towards paying off my grad school loans. When I use cash I get no benefit. I pay my bill off entirely every month, so it's not like I'm using it to pay for things I can't afford, just using it to get as much benefit as I can!

the point I was getting at was if you really don't have $6 on you to get a manicuare, then don't get one.

why charge it?

Yes, you and me would pay it off right away.

But I think whipping out the card for every little thing is a bad idea and can get you into a lot of trouble.

I've been there, I know.

I for one hardly ever have cash on me. I charge EVERYTHING because DH and I love the rewards Chat Icon

We pay off our balance every month so I don't get why it's anyone's business if I pay with my credit card or not. It's pretty presumptuous to assume that it is because one can't afford it. JMO!

Re: Paying for a $6 dollar maincure on a credit card?

us charging everything allows us 2 free flights just about per year!

next year because we have spent so much, we will have enough points to fly to Jamaica!

Also- to respond, i also have excellent credit and pay off my bill in full each month.

Our cc is like our spending money!

I agree, just because some people may get into trouble doing things this way doesn't mean that all people do.

DH and I keep a register of everything we charge and balance it like a checking account. We both have excellent credit and no CC debt. It never crossed my mind to think that someone may be judging me as I pay for a $5 item with my CC, oh well. It's impossible to know anyone else's situation, the girl could be very responsible and have more many in savings than anyone here.

I don't think you can assume this woman doesn't have cash. She may not have much cash on her.

I charge a lot of purchases these days, on my credit card rather than my debit card. My reason for that is I don't want my debit card number and info all over the place, if anyone guessed my pin and had the account number, it would be all too easy to get at my money. I pay the credit card off every month, but I like using it so I don't need to stop at the bank for cash so much (really a nusiance with a baby) and I also get points for store cards.

So yes, I am one of these people who uses it for small purchases. A $6 manicure I would probably pay cash, but really, you can't assume she can't afford it.

Re: Paying for a $6 dollar maincure on a credit card?

I wouldn't assume she doesn't "have the 6 bucks" for the mani. Maybe she realized halfway through that she was low on cash and only had a $5 bill, so gave that as the tip and charged the service? You never know.

I used my credit card for an $8 charge yesterday because I only had $4 and change in my wallet - I was going to stop at the ATM later in the day, and I don't use a debit card. Doesn't mean I can't afford what I bought, and I'd hate to think people were judging me for it...

seriously lol Chat Icon

for those of you who dont want to use your debit or credit card, use Amex this way you are still "safe" but have to pay at the end of the month. I do that for a lot of things.
