Re: please tell me i am not alone in thinking this is ridiculous!!

I am way too practical.

Although I admit I have bought Lily Pullitzer dresses for DD -- on Ebay. And if I wanted to, I could sell them and get as much as I paid.

But, I don't sell one ebay so.....I will be keeping those dresses for someone special. Chat Icon

I would never in a million years spend that much money on clothes for a baby.
I buy all my DC clothes on clearance, perferably with a coupon or extra %age off!

Re: please tell me i am not alone in thinking this is ridiculous!!

I will splurge on DD every once in a while...but it has to be something I absolutely love. Century 21 has great desinger kids clothes for less but I still tend to shop the sales rack at Gap. Spending $55 on a baby t-shirt is not practical for us.

This is someone who is a HUGE fan of hand me downs and thrift stores for Caden's clothes...and Im not ashamed to admit it.

I will say though that when my eldest daughter was small I was a big Dennys shopper....

Right now I have a teenager and 2 preteens...as well as a preteen step daughter...ALL of which know about and WANT designer duds. We implement their Target & Old Navy wardrobes with some Abercrombie and designer stuff..But I usually shop the sales.

I prefer to wait until they are "in the know" ....

You should see the price of Burberry stuff at Bloomies. It's INSANE.

Personally, I wouldn't but that is me. Each to their own. For some people, it isn't expensive. It's no different then spending hundreds of dollars on the "it" toy during the holidays or buying a designer bag.

If you have the disposable cash...go for it. I think spending what you don't have to keep up is much more of an example of sending the wrong message.

Yeah it's crazy, sad thing is that I know few of people in Manhattan who think that 55$ is cheapChat Icon I have a friend who shops in the most expensive stores for her kids. good thing is that she buys DD things all the time or gives her lots of never used(with tags) clothes(sometimes even gently used) .Chat Icon DD has dresses and designer clothes that start at 200$ and go upChat Icon .

I would NEVER spend that much for kids clothing even if I had money for it.

I buy J Crew, yes it is more expensive but it washes/wears better so I can pass it down to my other son. So I justify the cost that way! Personally I think Ed Hardy is so annoying and even if it was cheap I wouldn't out it on my kid.

Re: please tell me i am not alone in thinking this is ridiculous!!

I could never justify doing that. I just don't have the budget for it. I am not big on labels but I have found brands/clothes/stores that I like and works for DS. They last more than 10 washes yet very easy on my budget.

That being said, I would NEVER question someone who does. If they have the money, their kids are not starving to get designer clothing, then it's really NONE OF MY BUSINESS if someone wants to spend $55 or $150 on a dress, shirt, etc..

Re: please tell me i am not alone in thinking this is ridiculous!!

I have friends who buy expensive clothes for their kids. I have bought expensive things for Jack also. His main wardrobe consists of Gap, Childrens Place, Old Navy etc....but for special occassions he does have higher end things (mostly from my mom lol)

I also know a ton of people who spend hundreds of dollars on stupid toys that the kids will outgrow within a month or not even play with at all. People who buy into the newest hype of the season. That to me is ridiculous too.

Bottom line though, what is cheap to some - is expensive to others, and vice versa.

Re: please tell me i am not alone in thinking this is ridiculous!!

I would never spend that kind of money on clothes....but I really don't care if other people do!
And, quite honestly, I probably could spend more money on Lily's clothes at the rate she's growing! She's wearing clothes from last summer because they still fit her!! So we get our money's worth when it comes to clothes.
I agree with Kate - I only shop at BabyGap for sales.

Re: please tell me i am not alone in thinking this is ridiculous!!

i don't even know what ed hardy is but $55 for a t shirt is crazy!

i actually thought that i would dress my baby up in a lot of cute designer baby clothes. now that i am a mom, the expensive stuff we got as gifts just sit there and my little guy lives in sleep sacks most of the time.

Go to Once Upon A Child In Massapequa. All of Brody's clothing comes from there. I buy him Baby Gap and Gymboree for a fraction of the price. I even have a few Juicy Couture pieces that I recently got there for Ava.

Oh please I think this all the time like baby prada shoes? What the heck I guess if you have money to burn-personally I would rather leave it to my kids than show them pictures of their expensive baby clothes that looked nice until they spit up on them or grew out of them and I went broke!Chat Icon
