im afraid to be home alone.... seriously petrified. i have to make sure every window and door is locked 50 times over... and i avoid the front door at night... we have the kind with the glass window in it. i have this fear that im gonna walk past the door one night and some scary man is gonna be standing there with a knife. ... ok im nuts. .
hahha and I am the EXACT opposite - being home alone is my FAVORITE THING EVERRRR.
I've been trying to think - I don't think I have any ridiculous/irrational fears!!! Seester - tell me what I'm afraid of....
eta: I thought of one that used to upset me, but I got over it... When I was in 3rd grade, especially after I read Judy Blume's "Blubber", I was terrified of drinking from a straw, but missing my mouth and scraping the inside of my nose. WEIRD, no?
I think Judy Blume caused my fear of open blinds at night. I can't open them or look through windows at night because I think I am going to see a floating pig If the blinds are open I will casually ask DH to close them. . .
oh yes and she is also the reason that i try to cover my ears when i sleep so spiders dont fall in
Damn you Judy Blume!

Re: post your most ridiculous and embarassing fear here!!
anything that stings..bees, yellowjacks, wasps, scorpions...totally irrationally afraid, like screaming crying baby afraid. Sometimes I think I should just get stung so I know its not a big deal and get it over with.
Mice, yuck. There was a screaming incident once when I "thought" I saw one. I was so hysterical my mother offered to drive 4 hours to calm me down (no I didn't let her do it).
Being buried alive.
Something happening to my dogs (fire, burgler) when I'm not home to protect them.

Even when its 90 degrees out, I HAVEEEEE to wear a blanket or at least a sheet.
I think in my weirdo mind, if a robber came into our apartment, he wouldn't be able to shoot me or see me if I am under some kind of sheet or covering!
Oh man, I feel so vulnerable letting my craziness out!
I am the same way. Even when I was living in Italy with 100+ degree temperatures and no fan - i had to AT LEAST have my feet covered with a sheet. . .obviously so no one could grab them while I was sleeping.
Me too, my feet MUST be covered!

I'm afraid of getting fat and would prefer to adopt a baby so I don't have to worry about losing pregnancy weight
I am afraid of ALL pregnancy related "side effects".
Sad but true.
I was thinking today about the intense fear I have to stretch marks on my stomach and the loss of boob shape.
i am not necessarily afraid of getting "Fat" b/c I know I will starve to death/work my *** off to lose the weight....
my concern is more for those things that diet and exercise cannot help.
It's awful and I feel guilty and terribly that I think this way...but I do.
I am vain. VAIN VAIN VAIN.
(thank you LB...btw)
Thank God someone else is with me on this! I was so afraid of posting that and getting flamed
Me too.
I am also afraid of walking into a mens bathroom instead of the womens.
I have done this before...twice that I remember! Once in Brooklyn at a McDonalds...I had to pee so bad I wasn't paying attention and thank God there wasn't anyone in there. The second time was in Orlando's airport!

Bon, I'm so with you there... even if my feet are hanging out I won't be able to fall asleep.. all because of a robber coming in and grabbing them or knowing I'm there.... although, I do have a whole escape plan if that were to ever happen... I even keep an extra collar and leash in the bedroom for Cooper *just in case*.... so sad!
Feet hanging there? There is no such thing as hanging. They are ALWAYS under the covers. There are scary people under the bed!

Ok here goes...I'm afraid of the dark...seriously!! We leave the bathroom light on every night so that acts as my "nite light." DH thinks I'm insane!!!!!!!!!!!
This is by far my biggest fear. What makes it worse for me is that I wear glasses so in the middle of the night I'll wake up and see shadows and "foreign" shapes of my furniture and think it's a murderer or burglar! I hate it!

I, too, obsess about my weight.
Unfortunately, this is NEVER enough to get me to give up eating certain things lol so I guess it can't be THAT much of a fear. But I constantly worry worry worry about everything I eat, how much I eat of it, how much I work out, etc. OYYYY it is exhausting.
I'm also a big worry-wart in general.
I'm not terribly AFRAID of anything aside from dying - I'm scared of, and always have been, terrified of flying, getting into a bad car accident, getting attacked during a home invasion or something - I'm ALWAYS panicked about that for some reason. You would think that something bad had happened to me in the past - like violent to make me feel this way. Weird.

being away from a bathroom or not having access to one - I always panic that I'll get sick or need one and not be able to get to one
OMG this is my biggest one, too!!!
also,
Unibrows. I can't. I just can't.
I also have a fear of falling off of a cruise ship- eventhough i'm barely tall enough to clear the guardrail
and i have the biggest fear of sleeping in for work- i check my alarm clock like 4 times before i go to sleep.

I have a fear of birds, and because airplanes look like birds I have a fear of them also. I don't mind being on one but when they fly low, they look like birds.

I am petrified of caterpillars, the hairy black ones. I scream and run when I see one.
Also, I have to make sure my legs or arms dont hang off the bed while Im sleeping. Im so afraid that something is going to grab me from under the bed.

Re: post your most ridiculous and embarassing fear here!!
Another one...and this one gets me panicky, like nothing else....and normally I am pretty rational and calm.
But I am TERRIFIED of an attack on NYC again. Now I'm living here, and I'm afraid that if NYC gets attacked (bombed, biological warfare), there just isn't a way out. all of the roads, boats, trains would be mobbed.
I'm honestly PETRIFIED about it. Especially when DH (who does counterterrorism research) says that its inevitable.

Charles Manson! I actually used this as an example of an irrational fear when I was teaching a sociology class and a few weeks later the kids all brought in pictures of him and held them up to cover their faces at the same time. I died laughing.... but was really freaked out! I KNOW if he ever gets out, he's coming to my house to get me. I have to go turn on all the lights in my house, now....

Re: post your most ridiculous and embarassing fear here!!
Oh, where do I begin? OK, I sometimes get scared when I drive under an overpass because my elementary school showed us a (made up) movie on how pranks weren't so funny. A bunch of kids threw a rock and it went through a man's windshield. He was bleeding and crying and it freaked me out.
If I'm home alone (sorry, I had to use that face when I wrote home alone!), the music to HBO's Autopsy will creep into my head just as I get into bed. I will also hear the chanting sound from Eyes Wide Shut.
I'm also afraid of oversleeping. I will check my alarm over and over. The few times I have overslept, I pretty much had a full blown panic attack like it was the end of the world.

Something smashing through my windshield and piercing my chest. I think I have watched too many "man" movies because this happens in almost every Lethal Weapon movie.
If I'm driving behind a truck with poles or some kind of equipment on the back, even if it looks secure, I have to change lanes. Same fear.
I'm also afraid of spiders and rats, and accidently dropping my nephew when I'm holding him (even though he's 16 months old and can pretty much walk on his own).
