I love it here.
I just wish we had a Country station
XM Radio - 6 country stations plus bluegrass if you like that too.
Yeah my sister has that but we just bought a house -- I can't do any extra money each month, especially for something that's not a "need". My other issue: I'm so into Toby Keith that very few other artists do it for me LOL! I mean, I will from time to time wander to Garth, Brooks & Dunn, Trace, Reba, Rodney Atkins, John Rich, and Blake Shelton every once in a while but I come right back to Toby after three songs tops!

Re: Pros and Cons on living on the island?
Proximity to the city, Nice beaches, Outlets, Just about any store and restaurant.
CONS- If any major catostrophe happens I don't know how we are all getting of this island.
Oh yeah and traffic and taxes and that good stuff.

Re: Pros and Cons on living on the island?
I love LI and will probably never move
Pros: 1. Beautiful beaches. I could not live somewhere with no beach. I love the beach in the summer 2. Always something to do 3. Love the suburbs and couldn't have it any other way 4. Proximity to the city 5. Love the Hamptons!!! 6. Close to all of my family and friends 7. Change of seasons 8. Lots of good shopping!!!!! 9. Pizza/Bagels!!! 10. The fact that everything is nearby. I've been to places where the nearest supermarket was 30 minutes away. There is not way I could deal.
Cons: 1. Traffic 2. High cost of living 3. Taxes

Re: Pros and Cons on living on the island?
everyones sitation is different - but unless you have a reason you can't get a mortgage- and FHA loans are not hard to get- most people can buy here- maybe not there dream house- but what's wrong with starting out small, building equity and trading up?
I bet that's what most of our parents did- my Dad's first house wasn't the 4 bedroom/3 bath colonial I grew up it
I agree with you! That's what I'm doing. Starting small and then working myself up. We have a starter home now but in a few years we hope to move. My parents did this as well as many other people I know. LI has a high cost of living but I don't think that means you'll never own a house, I think it just means it just may take you a little bit longer. And that's fine by me. I'll wait for my dream house. I'm in no rush!

well, i dont live ON LI, but do live in Queens..but from what i can seee:
Why do people (generalization) from Brooklyn or Queens say they don't live on LI? Brooklyn and Queens are on LI-you don't take a bridge, tunnel, ferry or plane to get to these places.
You know whats funny, I was going to post something along the lines of this..lol...I live ON LI, but not IN long island
Its been a debate for years!

Geographically, yes, they are ON Long Island; however, psychologically, it's a whole different thing...we're in NYC!
I live in Northeastern Queens, which definitely has a suburban vibe, but a place like Forest Hills, for example, I don't think compares to anything on "the Island." And in most areas of Queens and Brooklyn, you can walk to wherever you need to go; public transportation is generally a couple of blocks away and there are sidewalks everywhere. I would never describe myself as living on Long Island. I think we "New Yorkers" are probably pretty snobbish about that.
Now, see, I dont consider myself living in NYC either, cuz its not really the city...I consider manhattan the city!
i dont consider myself a long islander either..maybe a borougher?

Re: Pros and Cons on living on the island?
PROS:
Beaches close proximity to NYC Wineries East End Living
CONS:
Absurdly high taxes
More pros than cons in my opinion. But I am an east-ender so I may have a different take on things
