nope. i buy what i want when i want it but i certainly do NOT go overboard. I just buy what needs to be bought for DS and every so often alittle something for me

We both live here. We both eat here. We both shower here. We both raise a family here. There is no "my" money or "his" money. It is only "our" money. All money goes into joint accounts and we...errrr...*I* pay bills from this account. We both spend money from this account. Unless a purchase is "out of the ordinary" we dont ask for permission. Most of the time DH will ask if there is enough money in the account to purchase such and such...
I could never live in a household where I had to "ask" for money.
ETS: With regard to gifts, yes, it comes out of the checking. It's our money so i dont see the point in "siphoning" off money into a seperate account just to buy a gift. If it was something that DH wanted to keep a secrete fro me, he would put it on a credit card and then we would just pay it off when the bill came.

I handle the bills and most often hit the ATM. DH doesn't ask or give. We both contributed to our nest egg, we can both take from it equally. If I were to buy something large (or if he were to) we would discuss it prior to the purchase.

Same here... DH deposits his check and I pay the bills and buy everything all he ever needs is money for lunch sometimes and his yucky yucky cigarettes (i'm working on that one).. I never go overboard though

This would totally not fly with me...I worked hard before I was a SAHM and it all went into one checking and savings account, OURS...I go to the ATM when I need to and he sees it, but there is no "allowance" it's both our money, unless I go nuts which I tend to sometimes, he doesn't say a word...
We also rarely use credit cards, it's always cash..that way we know we can afford what we're buying and not going over...we have a savings account we do not touch
We are pretty much like this, word for word.

Nope...we both buy what we need when we need it assuming its minor stuff. We both have a common sense of what is ok to spend and neither of us has much time to be out and about spending money anyway. Its usually just groceries and neccessities. Maybe once a month we go shopping on the weekend for clothes of what ever. If anything, i spend more of the money!

We have a joint bank account and when I need to buy something, I buy it. I do not ask him for money. I have a debit card and credit cards. We decided when I became a SAHM that my "job" was the kids/household stuff etc. and his "job" is to go to work. We both work, he just leaves our home to do it and he answers to a boss, I answer to our 3 children

Well for "big purchases" we clear together. For every day things such as food shopping, gifts for bday parties - I do the deciding.
For myself such as clothes, lunch out, or what have you I have free reign but I do try to be conscience of what I am spending. And I very rarely by things for myself, so when I do I don't think twice about it.

We have a joint account and I use my ATM card or take out cash whenever I want. If it's big purchase we decide whether or not to buy to together.

I am a SAHM mostly, I only work pt a few hours a week.
I buy everything on a credit card, my husband pays the bill each month. He does all the bills, I never really touch the checking account. If I need cash for some reason, I tell him, he makes a note of it in his check book thing. He's very anal about record keeping. Lol.
I buy what I want. He doesn't give me an allowance or budget. I don't go crazy, I just buy what we need. It's around the same each month.
As for gifts, I buy his out of my account. For other people, I just buy on the card.

Same here but we never manage to stay within our budgeted amount. I think it's because it's unrealistic after speaking to others.

No, never did when I was a SAHM. I bought what I wanted and needed and he never questioned expenses. We have had a joint account for awhile, and we both put money in it when we were both working, so we had a good amount already when I stopped working. DH added to it and we both paid certain bills.
That said, I have to say, our ideas about spending are similar. Neither one of us are big spenders, and maybe that has helped.
