Question about being a bridesmaid...

...if you have been a bridesmaid, was your hair or make up or both paid for by the bride or did you pay for it?
I was recently in a bridal party and the bride emailed me before the wedding to say she had made me an appt for hair & makeup and she had chosen a hair style for the bridesmaids. I know I was stupid not to ask the cost or if she was going to pay, but every other wedding I have been in the bride paid for our hair if she wanted it done/up. No drama, I just wanted to see what the norm was. Maybe I was just really lucky that it was paid for every time before? Thanks!

No, ive been a bm a handful of times... and i always paid myself... except for my sister - my mom paid for us

ETA: I didnt pay for hair or makeup for my bm's either... i told them they could do whatever they wanted...

I've been a bridesmaid a few times and had to pay for my hair myself. I was never asked to get my makeup done though but if you wanted to, you had to pay as well.

As part of my bridesmaid's gift I paid for the hair and they paid for the make-up if they wanted it done.

I was a bridesmaid in 2 weddings - one the bride paid for the hair and the other didn't.

Every wedding i've been in (or my own) the bm's paid for hair and makeup themselves (although i've never had it dictated to me what my hair style should be).
For my wedding, i paid for one of my friends to get her hair and makeup done since i knew she was short of money, and wouldn't have done it otherwise. But that was a gift just for her and not something i did for the others.

i'd just ask your friend - will make things simpler
what's 'norm' for anyone of us, may not be 'norm' for your friend anyway

I have been a BM a MILLION times, and Ive never had my hair or makeup paid for by the bride. I did not pay for my BMs hair or makeup either. However, I didnt require nor was I ever required to have my hair and makeup done so no one had to spend the money if they didnt want too.

I think all weddings are different, as are all brides. Some pay for hair and or MU and other's don't. You would have to ask this bride specifically.

But in my experience the BM's paid for their own hair if they wanted it done. Usually if the bride is forcing to get it done and forcing a specific style then I would assume they would be more likely to pay for it as well. But again, all are different.

I pray I'm never in a wedding party where the bride picks the hair style. Sorry... but I just had to say that!

I have been a BM a handful of times. I always paid for hair and makeup...but it was always a choice. Like the bride would say I am having so and so at the house for hair and makeup it is XX amount of dollars...if we wanted to go somewhere else we could....or not do it at all

Only for my SILs wedding... she paid for all hair and makeup. Every other wedding I've been in, I've paid.

In my BP -- I paid for their makeup--they paid for their hair.

For the BP that I was in -- I believe the BMs paid for their hair, but not their make up. I can't remember....where's DaniRella!?

when I was a BM the bride picked the salon and we all paid for ourselves. The bride had her make up done at that salon but I DID NOT like the way the MU girl did it, so me and another BM did our own. I had training at Barbizon years before so i knew how to do somewhat professional makeup.

For my own wedding, the girls paid for themselves too. I used the same salon I used in wedding mentioned above and everyone paid for themselves.

I've been a bridesmaid a few times and I've never had my hair and makeup paid for. When I got married, I didn't pay for my bridesmaids hair or makeup either. I didn't "require" them to even have it done professionally. It was up to them. I did get them pretty expensive gifts though and if not for that, I might have offered to pay for their hair/makeup as a gift.

In every wedding party that I've ever been involved with, including my own, the BMs paid for their own hair (& makeup, if they chose to do it). I didn't tell my BMs how to wear their hair (although I did ask that they got it done), and I've never been told how to wear mine.

I was just in my first BP but the bide paid for the 3 of us bridesmaids har and makeup.

For my own wedding, I paid for my bm's makeup as part of their gift, they paid for their hair.
I've been a bm a lot and twice I've had it paid for me, but most often not.

I have been a BM a bunch of times as well. I always paid for my hair and m/u but was told by the bride how much it was if I wanted to get it done by the people she was having. When I got married I gave my BMs the choice of getting their hair and m/u done. I had pretty inexpensive people too. Some did their own m/u and some did their own hair. I've done my own m/u for weddings too because I didn't want to shell out the money.

I think it can go either way.

For my sister's wedding, she is paying for the bridal party to have their hair and make-up done. Her gift to us. I did the same for my wedding, I paid for anyone in the bridal party who wanted to come with me for hair and make-up (not all chose to come, but that's another story!).

I have been a bridesmaid too many times to count, and there were also plenty of times where I paid to get my hair and make-up done.

I told my BMs that they could do whatever they wanted w/their hair but I did want them to get it done. I paid for almost 1/2 of their hair & makeup but they dont know that.

I have been a BM a few times myself & I have always pd for my own hair & gotten it done. The ONLY time I didnt get it done was in '01, the hair dresser changed her price when she saw how long hair was (down to my hiney) to over $100. I was like NO WAY 1. I didnt have that much on me & 2. All I wanted was the sides clipped up and some loose curls. The bride started freakin on me so a wonderful BM stepped in and did my hair for me.

I've never had the bride pay for me, and I didn't pay for my bridesmaids.

Though if she is not leaving it up to you - telling you she made you an appt and you have a required hairstyle - that's kind of ballsy.
