I've always paid for my own hair and makeup - even if the bride was specific about what she wanted.
eta: I feel once you're in a BP, you're expected to foot the bill for a lot of things. The bride is requiring you to wear a certain dress but you still pay for it, no?

I paid myself anytime I was a bridesmaid.
Same for the bridesmaids in my wedding - although I told them it was totally up to them if they wanted to or not.

The times I was a bridesmaid I paid for my own hair, and did my makeup myself.
I didn't pay for my bridesmaids' hair or makeup, but I didn't tell them they had to go get it done either, they could have done it themselves for all I cared.

I've paid for it myself and I've had it paid for. I paid for my bridesmaids, but they didn't expect me to. I would go in to it assuming I would pay, unless the bride said she'd like to treat.

I have been a BM a MILLION times, and Ive never had my hair or makeup paid for by the bride. I did not pay for my BMs hair or makeup either. However, I didnt require nor was I ever required to have my hair and makeup done so no one had to spend the money if they didnt want too.

I've been a bridesmaid a bunch of times and always paid for my own hair and make up.
My girls paid for their own hair and make up, too (I couldn't afford it for 7 girls). I didn't require them to wear a certain style or to get their makeup professionally done. They all did, though, at the salon with me, and it was such a fun time.

I think if a bride is going to require a certain style, or require you to have your make up done, she should also pay for it.
If you're paying for it, you should be offered the option of doing it yourself.

I was a MOH once and paid for my own hair and makeup. Bride had me wear my hair up, but she was a bridezilla (my sister  ) and it was august anyway.
I paid for my girls hair and m-u if they wanted make up done. But I had no say in how they wore it. But again, it was august so they wore it up.

I am in a wedding in 2 weeks and I am paying for my own hair and make up. It was optional.
For my wedding, it was also optional so I did not pay for anyone.

I have always paid for my hair. But I have never had a bride specify the "style" not that I would care really I am not picky but that seems a little extreme to me.

I have had both. I have had to pay and have had it paid for me..for my own, I paid the lady for the hair, the girls had to pay the make up lady if they wanted it done.

every time I've been a bridesmaid I had to pay for my hair. When I got married I gave my girls an option, they didn't have to go to the same stylist as me because I figured if they got a better price with someone else they could go for it. But I didn't care about everyone having the same hair style, I know some brides want everyone to be the same. I've heard of some brides that pay for the hair/makeup as part of the gift to their bridal party, but everyone is different I guess.

For my own wedding I paid for my Maid of Honors (I had two) hair as a special thank you. For everyone else I went ahead and made them appointments for hair/make-up and had them pay, but in no way did I require them to go. Actually half of them did their own make-up and some girls didn't get their hair professionally done.
For every other wedding I have been in it was pretty much the same thing...I paid, but we were not required to get our hair/make-up done by the bride.
I think if a bride is requiring you to get your hair done then she should at least chip in. Otherwise it should be your choice. JMO.

When I was a BM, I did my own hair / makeup. When I was a bride, I gave my BM's the option of doing their own or paying themselves. I did pay for my mom's.

I have been in both situations. I have had a bride pay for just hair or just amkeup before or both as a gift. I think if the bride is forcing you to have it done and having it done a specific way, they would be paying for it. If it is your choice to get it done, then I'd assume its also your money that will pay for it. I didn't pay for my bridesmaids, but I also allowed them to do it themselves if they wanted.
