Re: Question about recent Flying experience

Posted by Mushesgirl

i've flown about 8 times during the past year all on Jetblue.

More recent flights have been very crowded and or fully booked. One flight I took the crew asked people to stay seated until the row in front of them retrieved their bags from the overhead and to prevent crowding. That was the only time that announcement was made on any flight I was on. It was so great; I have to wonder why Jetblue isn't instituting this as policy on all fights.

Otherwise yes I'd stay in the back and wait in order to not be surrounded by people standing

I have been double masking, one of them an N95. I wipe the seat down with a clorox wipe. I wear wrap around sunglasses and a hooded jacket. I end up looking like darth vader but so what.

I assume your flights are a necessity because that sounds like a lot of work to fly for pleasure.
Did you have Covid already?

I just counted and I’ve been on 12 flights in the past year and I’m about to be on 4 more in the next few weeks. Chat Icon

None of it was essential. Essential for my sanity maybe! But I’ve had covid (not at all travel related) and now I’m vaccinated to boot!

Good for you!!! That is awesome. I have no problem flying even though I haven’t gotten the chance. I am not scared of doing most things though.

Question about recent Flying experience

I find it comical that my six-year-old can wear a mask all day, every day in school without complaint. Along with the rest of her class.

Yet grown adults are desperately trying to find ways to skirt the rules for a single flight.

The funny thing is I always said when parents were ******** and moaning about how horrible it will be for their kids to wear a mask all day in school, it has never been the kids who didn’t obey, it was the adults.

To piggyback on the flight question....Does everyone where their mask the entire flight or do they take them off if sitting with family?

Masks have to be worn the whole flight and they are very strict about it

I guess it depends on the airline and flight attendants because we pulled our masks down during the time that we were sitting down and from what I was able to see, the people around us (front/back) did the same. Nobody said anything. Our airline was United.

They offer drinks and snacks so u will be pulling ur masks down at some point unless u wear one of those masks that have an opening in the middle to eat or play an instrument. Chat Icon

DH flew United in Feb and his mask slipped down below his nose while he was sleeping and they woke him up to fix its

Interesting. I guess then it depends on the crew? Like I said, people around us did the same, maybe they were also sitting down with family? Who knows. But just while sitting down though. Whenever someone stood up to go to the bathroom or to get something from the overhead storage, that person would get reminded to put up their mask. I’m not sure about the rest of the passengers.

Maybe it's the crew. DH only flies United for business and they have been strict on all of his flights.

Kids are more complacent. Adults don't like to be told what to do. That's my theory at least

Skirt what rules? Just like your six year old takes hers off to eat at school, people need to eat on flights. I have taken flights that were over 5 hours. No way we weren’t eating for 5 plus hours.

And then all adults do is complain that “kids these days” don’t know how to follow rules or respect authority and are entitled brats.
Gee....I wonder why...

First time hearing too as I have relatives and friends who are flight attendants and know people who have flown. Not United per se though so maybe they are just being creative.

It was around the time when people started flying again and they were trying to find an end around on flights to avoid the mask for hours. They would milk a cup of coffee or a snack for the whole flight to avoid the mask. At that time, on some of his United flights, they started pointing out that "behavior" wasn't acceptable and then they demonstrated how to lower the mask to take a quick sip.

I feel bad for this generation of kids tho. The fact that my kids don’t question why they have to wear a mask while reading OUTSIDE more than six feet apart. My heart sunk when the teacher sent photos of them “getting fresh air”. They are becoming complacent and I don’t know how I feel about it.

COVID aside, I think kids are generally more resilient than adults and tend to roll with things better in most situations.

Did flights ever fully stop in the U.S.? I feel like last year was so long ago that I can’t remember anymore.

I started flying again last August internationally. I don’t think domestic flights ever stopped but a lot of international flights did.

i've flown about 8 times during the past year all on Jetblue.

What part of that is a lot of work? Wiping down the seats with Clorox? That's the problem with Society. I am a frequent traveler and have always done that. Pre pandemic. Why wouldn't you want to wipe down everything around you on a germ infested airplane? So many people end up sick while on vacation, because they just don't have Smart hygiene practices.

ITA! I've ALWAYS wiped down our seats, tray tables etc upon getting on a plane. They unload and reload so quickly that there is no way the plane is cleaned well in between. A Clorox wipe is so quick and easy. Like you said, just a matter of smart hygiene practices. Chat Icon

I don't wipe down anything. never have. My kids don't sanitize their hands very frequently. We are very rarely sick. Getting covid was the first illness that we've had in as long as I can remember. I actually don't think wiping everything down really makes a difference to be honest. Especially not with Covid since we know it doesn't live on surfaces very long. I think you either have a good immune system or you don't. I can't imagine being a germaphobe.

ETA I also hold the pole on the subway and would never even think of wiping down a seat on the LIRR and in all my life I have never seen anyone do that, and those trains are filthy. Hopefully you germaphobes never get a job that requires traveling on public transportation!

Society is killing their immune system by cleaning so much.

i've flown about 8 times during the past year all on Jetblue.

Absolutely ITA with you. I won’t use hand sanitizer, never liked it. Only have used to when made to. I know many who don’t even wash their hands. Gross as I am a huge hand washer, always have been. I don’t wipe down anyplace but my home.
I work with a germaphobe and she does get sick and a few years ago she was very sick. The smell is ridiculous everyday of the constant cleaning.

ETA I also hold the pole on the subway and would never even think of wiping down a seat on the LIRR and in all my life I have never seen anyone do that, and those trains are filthy. Hopefully you germaphobes never get a job that requires traveling on public transportation!

I'm not a germaphobe in the least bit but I recognize that certain public places can be extra grimy. Planes specifically yuck me out since it's a tight, enclosed space where you're breathing recycled air and everyone touches literally everything.

I most definitely sanitize or wash my hands after taking public transportation because it's pretty gross not to. Having good hygiene habits doesn't make a person a germaphobe. Chat Icon
