Really Upset - Think Jordan's Teeth are Growing in Wrong
Jordan is 9.5 months old - I've been shocked that his top teeth had not started coming in yet because he is teething like such a maniac (his bottom started coming just after he turned six months.)
I've been feeling for the upper teeth every day and nothing. Again, I couldn't believe it. So, tonight DH notices that one of his top teeth has broken through already, but I don't think it's normal. First of all, I feel like a moron that I didn't even realize that his tooth was there, you can fully see white. I have no idea how long it's been there
Here's the problem though and it's kind of hard to describe without a picture, which I'll try and get one tomorrow: The reason I never felt anything is because the tooth did not grow out from the bottom of his gums - it's coming out from above that - like the middle of the gum - I hope I'm making sense. I cannot imagine that this is normal and I'm so upset. I'm going to call the ped to see if he wants us to see a pediatric dentist already and I know it's just baby teeth, but I also know that they are going to be around for many years.
Has anyone else had any sort of situation like this? Again, I'll try and post a pic tomorrow - going to be hard to try and get though - but again, you cannot see the tooth if you just look at him and look at his gums - the tooth has broken through above the gum line and you cannot see it because the lip is covering the area.
Any advice? Experience?
Thanks.

For some reason I remember my mom telling me "When you check for the top teeth, don't just feel the bottom of the gum, check the front too"
maybe that's right? i'm still waiting for DD's top teeth. The bottom came at 6 months and she's also been teething like crazy!

Re: Really Upset - Think Jordan's Teeth are Growing in Wrong
my sons top teeth kind of came in like that (if i am understanding what you are saying)
when his bottom came in they were on the top of the gum. his top teeth came through the front and then down, if that makes sense. they look fine now.

If it is normal, and I would be so happy if it is, I wonder how they get down into the correct position? As I said, I'm calling ped's office tomorrow but I am just so upset about this. I know in the realm of things that can happen, I'm being silly, but I can't help it right now. Also, as I said before, I just feel like such an idiot and a negligent mommy for not even knowing how long it's been there

Yeah - it sounds like that's what it is - the bottom came straight up through the top of the gum but this top one is above and seems pretty high up

Dds are coming in now too from the middle the gum. One is ahead of the other and already looks "normal" and the other is just breaking through

I think that is normal. I actually noticed that with Dd too. Now that they have grown in more it doesn't seem that way though. Please don't panic.

Ladies, those of you who said this happened with your DC, if you remember - there was "empty 'bottom' gum" underneath where the tooth is coming out from?

if so, i think its totally normal before DS' bottom 2 came through, it looked that way, like it was breaking through the middle of his gum. its fine now

Re: Really Upset - Think Jordan's Teeth are Growing in Wrong
It's normal...no worries....
When you look for the bottom teeth you run your finger over the top of the bottom part of the gum...
When you are looking for top teeth your run your finger across the front part not the bottom side of the top...
If you look in the mirror you can see how your top teeth come out the same way....
Trust me...this is completely 100% normal....

Re: Really Upset - Think Jordan's Teeth are Growing in Wrong
Thank you so much, ladies. Maymama, yes, kind of like that.
Heather, I completely understand what you're saying about how the top teeth come out because I was feeling my own teeth and saying the same thing to myself but then I "reminded" myself that I have adult "big" front teeth and I would think that his baby front teeth would be uniform and not start higher up

yes it's totally normal! don't be upset :) all of DD's 6 top teeth are coming in and they all are making their appearance in the 'middle' of the gums.

Re: Really Upset - Think Jordan's Teeth are Growing in Wrong
it's normal. DS cut his top tooth about a month ago and I didn't know it had cut through because I was feeling the top of his gums and not the front. A moth later, it still hasn't come down fully and it's just lingering at the gum line. The other top three look like they are going to break thru soon.

Thanks, ladies. I definitely feel better although it still looks so weird. How does it eventually grow in normally?

DD's molars are growing in like that. All 4 of them. I didn't know they were coming in until the PED showed me. He didn't say it was unusual at all.
