Serving Alcohol at Baby Shower
Planning my sisters baby shower. We are considering not offering an open bar or running a tab. Is that acceptable or completely frowned upon?(Possibly having a champagne punch, but not sure if its offered at restaurant)
Couple of years ago, we ran a tab for her bridal shower thinking no one would drink and it the bill was . People were ordering margaritas at an Italian restaurant lol and my future brother in law showed up with a couple of his friends, drank at the bar and all their drinks were put on the bill!

Serving Alcohol at Baby Shower
For my baby shower, we did a brunch at a place and offered only wine, bloody mary's and mimosas. Maybe you can do something like this, or maybe provide wine bottles on each of the tables?

I personally think something alcoholic should be offered whether that be wine or champagne punch, I always host and do beer and wine at a minimum.

I’ve gotten burned in the past so I do restrictions now. I don’t think alcohol is necessary at a baby shower since the guest of honor can’t drink. You can set time a time frame (no more after the meal) or just beer and wine. Any restaurant will open tabs for anyone who must drink.

Re: Serving Alcohol at Baby Shower
You need booze. Nobody wants to sit through the opening of 20 diaper cakes and 100 onesies without some wine or something. Even just a spiked punch. Something. I couldn't drink at my baby shower but I made damn sure my guests- who were giving up their Saturday afternoon to watch me open gifts- had something to drink

I would offer wine, beer and punch at least.
I know a lot of places offer packages with just wine and beer only.

What time of day is the shower?
I would definitely offer wine and beer, you don't need hard stuff though.

You need to offer at least wine & beer. Nobody wants to be at showers to begin with, I can't even imagine how unbearable it would be without wine!

Re: Serving Alcohol at Baby Shower
I feel like i have been to baby showers were there is no alcohol except for punch. I actually I am surprised when I am offered anything else. I don't drink beer and wine so maybe that's why I never nocticd.
Now with that said my baby shower had an opened bar but it was a coed and the place I had it was a package price were it was included.

Agreed! The punch is a cute idea just to have, but most I think would drink wine.

Be nice to your guests.. offer at least wine and beer. The people that don't want it, won't have it, but the people that do will REALLY APPRECIATE IT!
I've been at showers where there was no alcohol and i didn't want to be 'that' person who was trying to find the bar (because its usually in another room) and getting drinks for just myself. Make things easier on everyone and have something available.

LOL. I didn't want one. But my mom really wanted to give me one. So I made sure it was small. Like tiny. Like 10-15 people tops in the yard Just not my thing. At all.

Serving Alcohol at Baby Shower
This is only half related but I need to share. DH and I were invited to a co-ed baby shower for his friend’s wife. I didn’t go because I barely know them and because kids weren’t allowed (I’m not getting DD a babysitter for a shower). It was at 3pm on a Sunday, btw. This was our first indication that something was amiss.
Anyway, DH went and when he came home he said “I’ve never been to a baby shower but this can’t be normal.” They had beer pong and were taking body shots. They served bagel bites. Nothing else, just bagel bites. And they got 4 gifts. There were about 30 people and 4 gifts.
I guess at least no one had to watch her open little shoes or play baby bingo!

Re: Serving Alcohol at Baby Shower
i'm glad the OP found a place with what she wants (booze related).
of all the baby showers i've been to, only ONE had booze.
i always thought that since the guest of honor can't drink...
huh, i didn't know i was hanging out with all the wrong people

I might have had a glass of champagne at my baby shower. But I'm crazy like that. Call CPS
