wow I cant believe how many people feel they need alcohol to tolerate a baby shower! I love showers, Its an excuse to see my friends and.or family and celebrate the guest of honor and a new baby. I also enjoy the cheesy shower games! Maybe I am weird. I also am not big on day drinking and hate both beer and wine. BUt jeez if people hate showers so much -- just don't go!
For what its worth I do not think that you need to have anything alcoholic - 90 percent of the showers I have been to have not had alcohol and if you do have alcohol I think mimosas or a punch would be perfect!
I need alcohol to survive life not just showers
ETA: you have to know your guests, in my family a function without alcohol is weird even when we get together on the weekends. Others may be fine with it.
Exactly this. My family gets together on Sunday afternoons and we always serve drinks. A glass of wine, a beer- you come to my home- for a party or just a Sunday afternoon- you're getting a drink. In the summer you are getting a tropical cocktail creation that I make poolside. But I'm a big drinker. I can't imagine going to a restaurant for a meal and drinking a soda. It seems odd to me

This is similar to how I feel, although I do usually see alcohol served at showers.
I am happy to go to a shower of any kind and I don't need alcohol.
It's a chance to eat a nice meal that I didn't have to cook, be kid free for an afternoon, and catch up with loved ones.
Having said that, I only attend showers for close friends and family. I don't go to (or usually get invited) to showers for say my second cousin who lives two states away and I haven't seen in 10 years.
Also, I always offer beer and wine at minimum at parties I host. But I wouldn't judge or turn up my nose at a party without it.

Hosting-- yes I'd serve some sort of alcohol because I know that people would appreciate it. Attending-- I couldn't care less but I'm not much of a drinker personally.

Re: Serving Alcohol at Baby Shower
Know your crowd! I am usually one of the only people drinking wine at family events but still think at least something, at a minimum champagne punch, is nice to offer and I am rarely at a completely dry event (just kids parties)
I am surprised by how many people hate showers though! I personally enjoy them unless I don’t know anyone else there and I was disappointed when my cousin didn’t open gifts at her bridal shower. I think baby gifts are even more fun to see than bridal gifts though because of the cute stuff
