should I bring a sick child to a playdate?
I could use some opinions on this one. DD is 2 1/2. She has had a mild cold for over a month that seems to come & go. In the past few days it has gotten worse (mostly at night though) & she's coughing with a runny nose. She's still going to daycare everyday and she doesn't have a fever.
We have a playdate tomorrow afternoon. Should I bring her or cancel? There will be about six other kids there.
Personally, it doesn't bother me to have DD play with kids who have colds in the winter. In my experience, most toddlers have colds throughout much of the winter. Not sure what the etiquette is here though.

I would be really annoyed if someone brought a sick child to a play date, so my answer is cancel.

Ditto. I don't think it's fair to the other children.

Well I would go by the daycare rule, fever free, no green mucus and acting relatively normal.

Re: should I bring a sick child to a playdate?
I would either cancel or throw it out there to the moms that are going to the playdate. Let them decide. Some people do not have a problem with it. I hate when I get blindsided. So I would want to know your child was sick. I never really go by the no fever thing. Things can change in an hour with that stuff. Daycare is one thing but a playdate is always optional.

Re: should I bring a sick child to a playdate?
A runny nose and cough doesn't necessarily mean she is sick. If she is acting fine with no fever, I would bring her.
Once you have toddler, they have a runny nose for 75% of winter. In your case, her runny nose and cough could be caused by the dry air conditions and have nothing to do with being sick.

Re: should I bring a sick child to a playdate?
I would let them know in advance that your child has a runny nose for a while but no other real contagious symptoms. If they suggest rescheduling you'll know they hae a problem with it... play it by ear and see what they say. I know I wouldn't want my child around a sick kid because I can't risk him getting sick and me taking more days off to stay home with him.....

ITA. Also, since colds and fevers are contagious before symptoms show up, it's quite possible that the "healthy" kids will wind up giving your DD something....

Re: should I bring a sick child to a playdate?
I would cancel. I don't think it's right to bring your child even if you think it could just be a cold. Yes, most kids do have runny noses alot during the winter but if DC"s coughing too and seems worse, then I would skip the playdate. If you ask the other moms, they might not be honest and tell you they d on't want DC there and then be ****** you brought him/her.

I would ask the other parents what they think. To me, it's no big deal but the other parents might get upset by it.

Re: should I bring a sick child to a playdate?
I would cancel. On Christmas Eve, we went to my cousins house. His son had a runny nose and a cold. He didn't tell anyone his son was sick so we were surprised when we showed up there. Two days later, his son developed a fever and was knocked out for days. A couple of days later, my son developed a cold, then a fever and it esculated into pneumonia. So, you never know if a simple cold is really something more.

Re: should I bring a sick child to a playdate?
If DS hasn't been feeling good and is just getting over a cold I wouldn't, but if it's just the snotty nose that lingers for weeks and weeks afterward I would go, but stay on top of DS to keep his hands and face clean.

I agree, I think it is unreasonable for people to expect you to keep your child home for a little cold. IMHO, no fever, no vomiting, no diarrhea, no green mucus, it is fine

I agree! I hosted a gtg with a few mommies on here. Before they cam over, I explained that DS had a runny nose. They were fine with it so we kept it on. As it turned on, everyone's little noses were running! It is a winter thing, especially if kids go to school or daycare
