We saw it on DVD, not last night and we made huge changes after watching it. We all eat 60-75% organic now, the babies eat 100% and Noah we are slowly changing as much as we can.
We are looking into purchasing Poultry and Beef from an organic Farm vs. the store now.
I have to say we had to make a lot of budget adjustments though b/c the increase in food costs were HUGE, but there is IMO nothing more important then what you give/put into your body and so its worth it. I'm stilla bit of a hypocrite in some areas, but small change is better then no change.
What farm are you ordering from? I just recently was starting to think about this but I have no idea where to start and who is good.
theres a few I am looking into.
I just found this one that delivers to LI
8 O'Clock Ranch
And we are planning to go see this poultry farm in Huntington in the next few weeks I hope
Makinajian Poultry
And I have started going through this website, some deliver, some you have to go to.
Eat Wild NY
Were you planning on joining the CSA? The membership prices are high. I wanted to join a CSA here on the island for organic veggies but it's just too much money upfront.

I watched it on DVD and yes..I've boycotted tyson and purdue!
Ditto.. this is too sad eye-opening dvd. I nearly got sick watching this and will be more responsible about my meat purchases and also drastically cutting down meat intake.

Re: So did any of the mom watch Food Inc. on PBS last night?
Ugh I have to watch this and I'm going to make my sister watch with me too since she kind of rolls her eyes at the organic thing. We already try to eat all dairy organic and meat as most as we can but I really need to be more stringent with it. After reading this thread and watching Law & Order SVU last night I want to become a vegetarian.
On another note dumb question but does anyone know if buying meat from a butcher is actually better than pre packaged?

I saw this a few months ago and I was shocked by it. I am trying to make healthier choices at the supermarket, but sometimes it is hard financially. I do want to try and order some meat from 8 o'clock farms though. Thanks for posting that!

Re: So did any of the mom watch Food Inc. on PBS last night?
I have been on a waiting list from my library a while now, so I was so glad that it was on PBS. I almost bought on amazon.
For the most part we eat organic, my DS all organic. I am working on my DH to understand what am talking about. It is all about educating ourselves and family members. Who knew that 70% of our hamburger meat has ammonia to kill e-coli?? I'm going to have him watch it this weekend.

I want my sister to watch it too. SHe thinks I over do it with the organic food etc and how picky I am when it comes down to what my son eats. I hope she gets it!

Another interesting note is that one hamburger can contain meat from up to 1000 cows!!!
For the person that asked if meat from a butcher was better than supermarket, the short answer is probably not-you need to ask where they get their beef from. We eat almost all organic. All our beef is grass fed and pasture raised-we buy ground beef and pork from Whole Foods. If anyone is interested in looking into this more here are some great resources.
Joel Salatin-Polyface Farms-he runs a large farm in Virginia and is probably considered one of the top people in the eat local, organic movement. He wrote a book called Everything I Want to Do Is Illegal-which is very interesting and explains a bit why some smaller farms cannot be considered "organic" yet are 1000 times better than feedlot beef.
Michael Pollan-The Omnivores Dilemna-this book is sort of dry but again a lot of good info
