Re: So Fox5/My9 are gone from Cablevision...
According to the email that Cablevision sent, Fox5 wanted to charge them $150 million, $80 million more than the last contract. Seriously, in this economy who gets a 100%+ raise?!?!?!?!?
I say good for Cablevision to standing up to them!

Cablevision doesn't suck its just unfortunate that all their contracts are ending with all these providers. Fios and Dish are new in terms of contracts and I hope I'm around a few years down the road on here to see everyone saying FIOS sucks because they had a channel pulled. Just my 2 cents on the matter

I agree. It's almost like 1 channel had this idea to hold out for more, and now all are following suit.

Cablevision doesn't suuck. The situation sucks. I don't know where Fox thought they were going to get an increase of $80 mill. Thankfully Cablevision is standing up for its customers.

Re: So Fox5/My9 are gone from Cablevision...
From what I understand about the situation the other major broadcast stations (NBC, ABC etc...) already get around $150 million.
These stations are angry b/c Cablevision continues to raise the price of Cable TV but doesn't give the actual broadcast staions any of the cut.
People now HAVE to have subscribe to a cable service to watch these channels (2,4,5,7,9,11,13) which used to be free, and Cablevision is reaping all the benefits, so I say GO FOX.
The other stations just came to an agreement quicker b/c of arbitration, but arbitration took a lot away from them, the owner of Fox wants a fair negotiation.

I do not believe that is true.
According to the Cablevision email, Fox5 wants more than what Cablevision pays for ABC, NBC, CBS and Univision combined! I'm not sure how Fox5 thinks they are worth more than the 3 major networks put together.

Re: So Fox5/My9 are gone from Cablevision...
This is the email I got from Cablevision:
We regret to inform you that News Corp, in an act of corporate greed, has pulled Fox 5 and My9 from your Cablevision channel lineup. This is an unfortunate attempt to extort unreasonable and unfair fee increases from Cablevision and our customers.
News Corp is demanding more for Fox 5 than we pay for every other broadcast channel. In fact, they want more for Fox 5 than we pay CBS, NBC, ABC and Univision combined and are asking for more than $150 million a year. That’s an $80 million increase for the exact same programming! In these tough economic times, an increase of these vast proportions is irresponsible and unfair.
We have made numerous fair and reasonable proposals to News Corp and they have refused every one. And now, News Corp has pulled the plug on Fox 5 AND My9. This was News Corp’s decision, not ours. We want to keep these channels on the air while we negotiate a fair agreement.
As a result of News Corp’s refusal to negotiate, Cablevision is willing to accept binding arbitration to resolve this matter fairly. We are confident that an independent third party will agree that what we are offering to pay News Corp is fair. We call on News Corp to accept binding arbitration, and return Fox 5 and My9 to the air until an agreement is reached.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused by News Corp’s actions, and we ask for your help. Call 1-877-NO-TV-TAX (1-877-668-8829) or visit www.cablevision.com/fox and tell News Corp to put Fox 5 and My9 back on the air, and to keep you out of the negotiations.
Thank you for your patience, your patronage and your support.

Yeah that statement was not a fact only what I heard but this was published:
While Fox didn't dispute Cablevision's claims, it called Cablevision "hypocritical" because it pays more for two of its sister company channels, MSG and MSG Plus, than it does for all 12 Fox channels. MSG and MSG Plus are owned by Madison Square Garden Inc., which like Cablevision is controlled by the Dolan family

FOX is the exclusive network with rights to broadcast the World Series, which starts in @ 10 days. I'm sure they think this is the perfect time to extort money.

ITA! If Cablevision agreed to that amount of money, our rates would go up dramatically. And quite frankly Cablevision gets enough of my money as it is.

Re: So Fox5/My9 are gone from Cablevision...
Cablevision ain't all that evil. So you are inconvenienced for a few days in the name of keeping costs down. Its a private company. One can always switch. BTW, if you want to keep your costs down, call them and tell them you have an appointment with FIOS. This is coming from the DW of a DH who used to work for them in customer service as well as billing and collections.

I liked losing a channel when I had cablevision. They would give us free movies for a day. As if I needed an excuse to not do anything.

Re: So Fox5/My9 are gone from Cablevision...
I resent the fact that both sides in this and previous contract fights have tried to manipulate their customers trying to get them involved too. They can get away with this because it's not quick and easy to switch between providers and the options are limited. Can you imagine if Stop & Shop was fighting with, for instance, a butchers union and the end result was that there was no meat available on their shelves because they either locked out the butchers or the butchers refused to cut meat? We'd all be down the street at Waldbaums, but with TV you have to make an appointment for installation, stay home to be there for the technician, etc. etc. so they know they can use US as a negotiating tool. That's what gets me Pi$$ed at BOTH sides. They should settle their differences behind the scenes and not make their customers suffer - I'm starting to think that reading and music are better options than TV!
