Re: So Fox5/My9 are gone from Cablevision...

All I know is that is every few months it's another problem with another network. They charge me for everything, remotes, boxes, I pay out the nose each month $190 for all 3 service and I don't even have any premium channels. Not even HBO. They can't pay these networks but they can pay $20 mill for Marbury to sit on his rearend for a season and they own Newsday, News 12, MSG. Suck it up already. If it was easier for me to switch I would, but I would still need them for internet since FIOS isn't available here and I would pay almost $500 in setup fees to switch to Dish network, and still have to pay for cablevisions internet - so unfortunately we are stuck. Shame on both companies - it's always the customers who sufferChat Icon Chat Icon

Cablevision doesn't suck its just unfortunate that all their contracts are ending with all these providers. Fios and Dish are new in terms of contracts and I hope I'm around a few years down the road on here to see everyone saying FIOS sucks because they had a channel pulled. Just my 2 cents on the matter

ITA

Also Verizon is in WAY more trouble financially than Cablevision. When the networks come asking Verizon for a 100% raise, they won't be able to pay that even if they wanted to.

It will be a long time before the FIOS division of Verizon gets out the red.

People now HAVE to have subscribe to a cable service to watch these channels (2,4,5,7,9,11,13) which used to be free, and Cablevision is reaping all the benefits, so I say GO FOX.

They are free. Use an over the air antenna and get your free channels.

Cablevision ain't all that evil. So you are inconvenienced for a few days in the name of keeping costs down. Its a private company. One can always switch. BTW, if you want to keep your costs down, call them and tell them you have an appointment with FIOS. This is coming from the DW of a DH who used to work for them in customer service as well as billing and collections.

Just make sure you live in an area where you can actually get FIOS...they know if you cant get it and then don't budge....

Cablevision DOES suck but it has nothing to do with the blackmailing all those channels are doing to get more $$$ out of Cablevision.

I liked losing a channel when I had cablevision. They would give us free movies for a day. As if I needed an excuse to not do anything.

You need a digital cable box if you want to watch them via your cable connection.

If you want to get them without using cablevision (over the air - antenna) you need to either have a tv capable of of digital or use a digital to analog converter box.

Re: So Fox5/My9 are gone from Cablevision...

Just a few points that need clarification..

First, channels 2,4,5,7,9,11,13 are broadcast channels. They can be viewed for free, over the air with a digital converter.

Second, actual cable rates have not changed in 5 years. The only change has been equipment rental fees (box charges). This has increased a mere 3%, well below the rate of inflation.

Lastly, in terms of negotiations with ABC, both sides made major concessions. Also be aware that no single provider gets anywhere near 100 million, let alone 150 million dollars.

Personally, I find it interesting that we lost Fox so close to the World Series. Well played News Corp, well played.

They were never free in the first place though. You still PAID for them through your family or basic cable package.

And if somebody was getting these channels without paying cablevision anything, they were stealing cable which is illegal.

Cablevision was one of the last providers to offer this type of service without a cable box anyways. FIOS never offered this. There is also still a possiblity you may get your basics if you have a digital tuner (like ATSC or QAM).

my bill for fios was cheap a first but compareing the two companies is night and day. i rather pay a tad more to have pleasure in knowing my DVR will record something and when i press guide or change the channel, it happens a tenth of a second later.

A. Go to a friend or family member's house that does not have Cablevision

B. Go to a bar/restaurant

I resent the fact that both sides in this and previous contract fights have tried to manipulate their customers trying to get them involved too. They can get away with this because it's not quick and easy to switch between providers and the options are limited. Can you imagine if Stop & Shop was fighting with, for instance, a butchers union and the end result was that there was no meat available on their shelves because they either locked out the butchers or the butchers refused to cut meat? We'd all be down the street at Waldbaums, but with TV you have to make an appointment for installation, stay home to be there for the technician, etc. etc. so they know they can use US as a negotiating tool. That's what gets me Pi$$ed at BOTH sides. They should settle their differences behind the scenes and not make their customers suffer - I'm starting to think that reading and music are better options than TV!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

They should resolve their disputes and not have the customers involved in this matter. I believe Time Warner had issues like these as well and they negotiate it but never pull off the channel off the air. This not only inconvenience the customers but they are also charging for a service for a channel they are not providing. And yes, all the providers go through this at some point as someone had said but it's the matter how negotiations are done. Where does the analogy of customers satisfaction coming first goes into this scenario? It surely shows that these days is all about money.

Cablevision will, however, be charging roughly twice as much as FIOS for every basic converter box. Their cheapest option is about $7.00 a month. FIOS has an option that's about $3.00 a month. We have a few small auxillary TV's that we use that don't need all the bells and whistles but it's nice to have them. I don't need DVR in the kitchen, and DH has a TV in his office, and in the finished basement bar area. They only get used a few times a month, but it's nice to have it. Not for $7.00 a month each though. For us to hook up all our TV's with a box will cost us an additional $300 a year with Cablevision - for the same service. They are already charging for the incoming service - they should SELL a small converter box instead of making you rent it every month, or come up with some sort of affordable option if they want to keep customers. As it is, we'll be giving up some of the convenience of having TV's in our guest room, home office, etc. if they want to charge us monthly to have the option on standby.

Go buy an Antenna from Best Buy and plug it into the back of your TV. That is what DH plans to do for the Vikings game.

They actually pay MSG more than $150 million for the2 Channels that MSG has through them, and that's because the owner of MSG also owns cablevision. News Corp has 12 Channels through them and that was one of News Corps main points
