Why thank you
Oh and I forgot to add Gardasil (hpv vaccine) and the issues with it's side effects that keep being stated as "unrelated".
I have to say that after typing all of this last night, I just reminded myself why I opt out and how I deep down DO feel saying no is definitely the right thing for me.

Re: Sorry - another swine flu post. For people who are NOT getting the vaccine
I just wanted to point out that according to the Wiki article posted above, during the 1976 vaccination there were 25 deaths arrtibutable to Guillian Barre. Meanwhile as of a few weeks ago there have already been 86 pediatric deaths due to H1N1 and we are at the very beginning of flu seasons meaning that these numbers will climb much higher. To put it in perspective in recent years our regular flu season has yielded a maximum of 88 pediatric flu deaths for the ENTIRE SEASON.
Thus, this flu is definitely deadlier. I am not posting this to alarm anyone I just want all the facts to be out there. Everyone has to weigh the possibility of a reaction to the shot against the possibility of contracting the Swine Flu and developing serious complications as a result.
with respect to the effectiveness of the vaccine we can anticipate that the H1N1 vaccine will be more effective than their seasonal counterparts because in developing the seasonal vaccine they are "guessing" at which strains will be around we as with H1N1 they actually know the strain and we able to develop a vaccine for it. When a seasonal flu vaccine is ineffective it is because they chose the wrong flu strains.

Re: Sorry - another swine flu post. For people who are NOT getting the vaccine
My gut is telling me not to get it AND both my ped. and my obgyn told me no for me and Ava. I did get the regular flu shot because I get it every year and since I'm pregnant, I thought it was important. But now I feel like how can I get the regular flu shot but not the H1N1? It doesn't seem to make sense to me that I'm not getting it because the regular flu shot is packed with a few different strains and the H1N1 is just that. I mean, if the H1N1 is the same as the regular flu shot, only with a different virus in it, then what's the difference? I'm only concerned because I am a teacher and right now, our school is shut down because of the number of people with flu-like symptoms. We only have three confirmed cases of the regular flu, but still, the fact that my school is closed is really scaring me. 1/4 of the population of the school is sick. Ugg. I really thought I was a firm no, but now I really don't know. If I wasn't pregnant, I probably wouldn't even think twice about saying no.

i feel the same way as you. its just a diff strain in the vaccine, made exactly the same way as the reg flu one. Right??
But it concerns me that your ped said no for your daughter, but my ped said yes. Its so frustrating that the Drs arent even on the same page

This is what disturbs me too. Both my ped and ped GI doc (whose wife is an immunologist) all say to give it to the kids. It really makes you start questioning everyone.

but then her friends OBGYN told her (she is pregnant) not to get it. So its just like
Opinions please! TIA
Perhaps the reason the ob/gyn docs are saying no is b/c the only formulation currently available is the multi-dose vials which contain thimerisol as a preservative? I'm not sure. I asked my ped about that and she said the amount of thimerisol is minimal and not a risk. BUT, that was her opinion for children. The ob/gyns might feel differently for the unborn.

Re: Sorry - another swine flu post. For people who are NOT getting the vaccine
I have never gotten the flu shot, nor gave it to my kids. I believe that the DtAp vaccines have triggered my son's Autism, whether you agree or not, but I am his mom, and have seen the reactions it gave him, so I dont need someone telling me there is no link, I am living it. Do I want to give him something that has not been tested long enough to be safe?? I have come so far with Christopher. He has made such prgress, that I am so scared to death to give this vaccine, or the flu vaccine to him. So I am NOT giving it to my kids. End of discussion. I dont feel like i have to defend my decision.

I believe you. We ALL know our bodies and esp our children's bodies. I once experienced a 2 mth reaction to the flu sh ot, I am always challenged about it. I am a grown adult, with a vast medical knowledge and history and know my body very well. So I believe you 100% and understand.
I am glad you have made progress with your son. If I were you, I would stay far away from the flu shot as well.

Re: Sorry - another swine flu post. For people who are NOT getting the vaccine
I think I am going to get it for me & for Katie. Or else I am going to drive mysely crazy worrying about us getting the swine flu.
After the reasearch that I have done , I feel the risk of the vaccine is smaller than the risk of getting the actual flu and possibly having complications.
As far as GBS - it is rare. But you can also get this with the regular flu, not just the vaccine, according to this article from WebMD
So I cant do the back and forth, its driving me crazy. I have to trust my Dr.'s. My primary care was leaning towards me getting it b.c of my medical history, my obgyn suggested i get it b/c I will most likely be on steroids througout my pregnancy so I will already have a weakened immune system. And my ped (grello) is giving it out too. So , I feel like I am making the best decision possible for my family.

Re: Sorry - another swine flu post. For people who are NOT getting the vaccine
my ob practically strapped me down yesterday and forced it on me. i told him i will call him back if i change my mind
i am TERRIFIED for my toddler. a regular cold sends him to ER...but his pulmonologist says no this year to shot. that its too new. so i am bathing us in hand sanitizer constantly and keeping him far away from any sick kid. one of his bffs is a teacher's son...i just can't bring myself to take him to their home. i don't care if he spends this winter in a bubble, i don't know what else to do.
we get out of house, just no at home playdates.

This is me too. I am PG ( almost 12 weeks) OB reallly wants me to do it, and DS' ped really wants him to get it because of his tendency to wheeze.
I am staying home a lot more, and really avoiding exposure to sick kids. I did get a regular flu shot for DS and will get one for myself next month too. Just really torn on the H1N1

I didn't give Ryan the regular flu shot and therefore did not give him the Swine Flu.
My ped, who is a stickler for all vaccines agreed to avoid the Swine Flu vaccine. And for him to say it, I really listened.

congrats on baby!
I was torn but now am i leaning for it. But ped only has mist which we can't take...when shot comes in, if shot comes in i will re evaluate.
i hate shots...i hate the thought of this one...but i know what i am going to be faced with if he does come in contact.
i give him vit d, been making sure he gets 30 minutes of sun daily. i really don't care if this is the winter of being in a bubble...so be it. dh wants to get the shot...he works in restuarants and comes in contact with so many people. he said he doesn't want to be the one to bring it home...

that is what is throwing me off.
the pulm is so popular around here...2 crazy busy offices buzzing around with asthmatic kids. for him to say no to the shot and know how sick these kids already get is unreal to me.

im not getting it my dr told me not to do it because you do not know what the side effects are and what research they did to make the shot being it came out so fast she is against vaccines she didnt even want us to get the hpv test until its 10yeras old. it takes 10 years to see the true effects of the drugs she says

I smell a rat.
If the government is stating that its limiting your ability to sue if something goes wrong, that tells me that they EXPECT something to go wrong and do not want to take responsibility for it.
I am not normally a conspiracy theorist, however, this stinks.

i think they are just covering their azzes like with anything else. Yes, there is a risk of a side effect with most vaccines so I think its normal for then to say that

Re: Sorry - another swine flu post. For people who are NOT getting the vaccine
DD is not getting the swine flu shot. Heck, I didn't want to give her the seasonal flu shot, but it was mandated by my state since she is over 6 months old and in daycare. I'm already pumping all this stuff into her, IMO there is no need for her to get 4 flu shots ON TOP of her regular schedule of vaccinations.
