Re: spin off- who can actually change a flat tire?
I have trouble physically lifting the tires to my truck...they're 66lbs each. We keep a full size spare in the rear since you can't use a donut on my vehicle.
It's really difficult to change a tire on my truck b/c of of my suspension which lifts my truck up a number of inches. I have a special jack, but even tow truck operators/roadside assistance have had difficulties with it although my DH has no problem using it. My truck is now made so that it can be lifted in both the front & rear by the tow truck's wheel-lift.
The last time I had a flat I was on 347 near the H Lee Dennison Building. My DH was in China, so I called my parents after I called roadside assistance so I could keep my infant DD in their vehicle while they worked on mine.
For the most part, I call roadside assistance through my insurance. I'm usually dressed and don't want to ruin my clothes.

ok- that's another reason why I can't see myself changing my own tire
my rims are flithy from brake dust most of the time
I can put air in my tires and check the presssue- I just learned 2 months ago- I was impressed with myself over that

that's great you can do it- I would rather lock myself in my car and wait for the guy to come
I just feel like I wouldn't be able to tighten the lug nuts enough
and I wouldn't feel safe driving the car after that
If you are using a lug nut wrench you don't need any "muscle" to tighten them.....
have you ever tried changing your tire??
I'm not trying to change your mind, a lot of people just don't realize that it is pretty easy to do.

no
I am sure I could learn- but I don't see the point since it's included in my Tele- Aid package- and it isn't worth it to give it up b/c it goes beyond just changing a tire
they know if I get into an accident and the air bags deploy, if I get lost, they can find me and give me directions, help me find a place when I don't have the address etc
I have much more peace of mind with this - then if I could change my tire since that is not the only thing that can happen on the road
