I was under the impression that the USPS allows gratuity no more than $25. so that's what we give him. We have a great mail carrier, best we've ever had no matter where we lived.
We moved in a month before Christmas last year and did tip the garbagemen because we had no frame of reference to know if they deserved it or not. Throughout the year, we found that they weren't that great. Things like throwing our can in the entrance of our driveway so I can't pull in before picking it up. Not taking branches that were bundled together according to the town's website instructions. For WEEKS. Leaving a mess when something is dropped. Totally ignoring stop signs and driving too fast through the streets.
I forgot to set aside money for them the other day to tip them. I doubt they'll be picking up garbage tomorrow and I think we're going to skip the tip this year.

We tip the mailman but not the garbage men. We pay a monthly maintenance fee for the garbage men so I feel that is sufficient.

We NEVER have the same mailman so NO...we would if we had a regular one...
As far as the garbage me go...NOPE. We used to but our guys expect to be tipped to do anything that they view as extra....which is usually something that isnt "extra"...it's long story but they basically dont do the right thing so we dont either...

This is the first year in our house and I tipped the mail carrier but not the garbage men because they are the worst- they throw the cans all over the street etc.

We don't tip the garbage men. We are never home when they come. We don't know who they are, and they lost one of our garbage cans.

We decide against tipping the garbage men because, honestly, they are a-holes. When collecting the garbage, they positin the truck so no cars can get by then, despite there being plenty of room for them to pull over. Also, cans/lids are always thrown wherever.

When they start actually putting the pail where it is supposed to go and not in the middle of the street I will.
Ditto! I have had my garbage all over the street. They cant get it in the truck? I spend a half hour out there sometimes cleaning the garbage up in our street after them!

i dont, they make more money than me and some get a pension too
- our garbage lids use to get thrown around- now dh takes the lid off before he puts it to the curb...

They are here at the crack azz of dawn and wake my DD up because they go in reverse down my street with a loud beep. No tip for them!

I think it's obnoxious that our garbage men left us an envelope with instructions on how to leave a tip. Money is super-tight for us and I don't want to tip them, but DH says we have to otherwise they'll start giving us a hard time.
