There are some Super Fakes out there that can really throw people off. Plus I don't know enough about every designer's specific details.

I have a TODS bag that I bought on the street...OMG...yes a knockoff bag. I bought it because i like the color and style of the bag and had NO idea who TODS was....Im not impressed with names. Anyway, I have had about 10 people ask me where i got my TODS bag!! 
sorry ladies but I do not believe that people can tell if a bag is fake or real by just looking at it....except for the ugly LV cherry bags that they sell on the streets...real or not...they are ugly!!

Some bags like Coach and Louis Vuitton have distinct features and it's very easy to tell which ones are fake.

I really have to disagree with that because I have both real and fake and sometimes I forget which ones are real and fake!

The fakes sold on the streets are generally bad fakes that can easily be distinguished from the real thing without even examining the fine details.
But I do believe some fakes are hard to distinguish unless you really know your details and have the bag in your hands to examine.
And some bags change their fine details each season, which can really make it hard to distinguish the real from the fake.

I had the same thing happen with a bag I bought on the street...I bought it because I loved the shape, color and size. After I was told for the tenth time by a stranger that they loooooved I decided to look it up on the internet and found out it was a fake marc jacobs bag...I had no idea nor did I care.. But I can't even tell you how many people commented on how much they loved it, wanted to steal it off of me, and how they wished they could afford it... It always cracked me up

I guess it depends on the fake. the fakes I have seen for sale on the streets of NYC are garbage IMO.
The ones on the street are totally different. I have gotten some good fake bags that no one knows they are fake. I even got one in Puerto Rico that I get compliments on all the time. The only way you know it is a fake is by the number inside the bag.

I was referring to the jeans, not handbags, but if I do notice someone carrying a knockoff bag, then I tend to think "What a shame...either she doesn't know or she's trying to be something she's not."
Everybody has different taste, regardless of cost. I wouldn't think anybody got "ripped off" just because I didn't personally like the bag. It's pretty obvious that real designer handbags have an insane markup, but if you want to be frugal about your purchases, buy a legitimate handbag that looks similar to one you like.

I'm not into designer anything - so I wouldn't know the difference between real and fake - plus most designer bags are just not my style so I don't like them anyway.
