Re: Spinoff to SAHM...
Posted by JenniferEver
I am going to do whatever it takes to be home with the kids for the early years. After awhile I might leave them with my mom, if possible to work part time a day or twoa week, just to keep myself going, and have some time out of the house. Or, since my work is at night, I might be able to alternate with DH at some point.
My mom was a SAHM and I also had my grandma here, and I never once in my life went to daycare or a babysitter. EVER.
I really appreciate that. I was always with family, and that's how I want to keep it for my kids.
But what overhead do you have right now?? it's easy to say something when you aren't in the position ... meaning do you own a home ?? do you rent ?? health insurance ?? Electric ?? Gas?? Do you pay for any of this at the moment ??? If not I can see why you would see it the way you do !

i agree with this. yes, right now i say i'd love to satay home, but who knows what th future will bring. if we are able to afford it, then we will, but if my salary goes to day care, then it doesn't make sense for us to go that route.

Re: Spinoff to SAHM...
My mom was a SAHM and as much as I would LOVE to stay home with my son, having a new house it would be tight with one income even though DH makes a decent salary. I rather work and us continue to live a very comfortable lifestyle than worry about not meeting our bills or not being able to buy my son stuff or DH not being able to spend time with his family because he had to get a 2nd job.
We are fortunate that my wonderful mom will be watching my son and I will be working 4 days a week.
ETA: if we had to put our son in daycare, I wouldnt work considering how $$ it is and I wouldnt feel comfortable leaving him with strangers..

I was just wondering for those who aren't SAHM's or don't plan on being one, who will watch your child while your at work?
I have used the same daycare for both my children and am very happy with it.

Why are you even questioning her? She said she was going to do whatever she could to do somethins SHE wants to do. She doesn't sound unrealistic about it at all.

Re: Spinoff to SAHM...
I pretty much am a SAHM. I work from home about 15-20 hours a week which brings in a little extra income. Down the road I will not work at all, but for now I like having a little extra spending money.

as of right now I am planning on getting a nanny- but I am open to day care as well
I like the socializtion aspect of day care- but I also like the idea of a nanny- since I had one
maybe a mix of both, a part-time nanny and day care

Re: Spinoff to SAHM...
I agree with the great socialization aspects of day care - as well as the child exposed to other germs (which is actually good in most cases - to build up immunity)
I am hoping to have FIL's and my mom watch our future children 3x per week, than daycare 2x per week. best of both worlds!

Re: Spinoff to SAHM...
I think whatever works best for the situation that YOUR in is the right decision. I will have my baby in a few weeks and the baby will be in home day care for 6 hours and yes I do have to. Both my dh and myself have professional degrees that we choose to continue to utilize. That does not mean we love our child any less...it means we are providing for our child the best we can. If we move as someone had suggested, the baby will love the love of a big family. I dont think 6 hrs a day removed from my childs life will present a problem for my family. Like I said whatever works best for your family is the right decision.
