1) word
2) not even going there...do you think that anyone who cheats should lose their job or be fired? or is it just politicians.
school teachers cheat. pastors cheat. chefs cheat. scientists cheat. doctors cheat. lawyers cheat. ironworkers cheat. accountants cheat. financial analyst cheat. chemists cheat. roach coach and mr softee operators cheat.
many of them with prostitutes.
do we fire everyone who does this? or just the people in the spot light enough that we find out about it?

Re: Spitzer Should Just Resign...
Yes...he's a jerk and an adulterer...but he's human and made a mistake...a big one. I think we should wait it out a bit before we crucify him and call for his resignation. If he broke the law and it is determined as such...he should then resign. The beauty of this nation is that we are considered innocent until proven guilty. This man will have to live for the rest of his life knowing that he disgraced his family. That will be a significant punishment.

The ONLY reason I think he should be forced to resign is if he is found guilty & has to serve time & if it is determined that he misappropriated state money to pay for his "women."

Re: Spitzer Should Just Resign...
There is more to him resigning then just the fact that he cheated. First of all, he did it with a prostitute. That's illegal. He also had her crossing state lines - federal offense.
I don't care where you stick your d!ck just don't claim you want to get rid of the corruption in the government when you are doing the same thing.

Re: Spitzer Should Just Resign...
Honestly, the biggest issue for me is not that he cheated on his wife (I assume all politicians do that). Its that it was a prostitute. This is someone who spent years closing down prostitution rings, and here he goes financially supporting one. That is the biggest issue to me. He broke a law that he fought to enforce.

Amen...however, yes, worst crimes have been committed, but for some strange reason it seems like they all still think they're above the law...and this has been coming out in the open more and more frequently.

Re: Spitzer Should Just Resign...
Clinton was impeached for lying under oath in a court of law. He just so happened to be lying about keeping it in his pants.
IMO what makes the president having an affair different than most other jobs is that he's the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. If any other active duty military member was found to be having an affair they would receive a dishonorable discharge. Especially if it was made as public as this case was. So it seemed to me that this was a clear case of a double standard.
At the end of the day I don't care that Bill & Hillary or Eliot & Silda have marital problems. I care that as such public figures their personal issues are going to impact their job. Although maybe it wouldn't be so bad if Eliot were distracted for a while, he hasn't been such a great governor if you ask me.

It's honestly not about the cheating that bothers me most. If the allegations prove true, he committed some SERIOUS crimes -- for which, yes, I would lose both my job and my law license if convicted. Possible tax fraud, money laundering, wire fraud, and violations of the Mann Act.
ETA -- To be clear, YES, I know he hasn't been indicted, much less convicted, yet... and I'm not expressing any opinion on his potential resignation. My point is that this goes beyond the idea of just being unfaithful.

I know nothing of money laundering...but
if he is indicted b/c of the prostitution scandal and the transport of the prostitute across state lines...so be it. He should resign.
my point is, what of all the millions of other people who pay for sex? should they also lose their jobs b/c of it?
let's face it. although illegal, many people don't think prostitution (especially the solicitation of it) is a "crime". gross yes, for those who don't do it. but should they go to jail?
smoking weed is illegal. should you lose your job and go to jail for that?

Please fill me in.
So far I only heard of allegations of money laudering (which I believe was said to be the beginning of the investigation by authorities) and being involved in a prostitution ring (for the money).
Where does the cheating comes?
I thought in was "involved" financially.
On top, those are just allegations so far, we don't know the extent of his personal involvement.

Well, as a lawyer, wanna bet I would be fired if I solicited a hooker? Not to mention losing my license. I don't see how the NYS bar association can not prosecute him for ethical violations of his law license, if nothing else. He did admit to *something* by apologizing. The feds have him, they just haven't released it all yet. Otherwise, he wouldn't have apologized without any denial.
As AG, his job was to enforce the law. And he did. He prosecuted prostitutes and thier madams. Now he is governer, his job is to execute the laws. I think its even worse for someone whose job it is to enforce the law to break it IMO.

Once convicted then yes he should be, but I think doing something now would be silly.

Yes, other people cheat, but he needs to be resign or be impeached because prostitution is aginast the LAW. As governor, he promised to uphold the LAWS of this state and country and he didn't.

He's governor of the state of New York. He broke the law he was elected to uphold and deliver. While AG he was nicknamed Elliot Ness for his no nonsense approach to fighting crime.
Do you think he would be as lenient as you?
IF he is guilty, of either crime, YES I do think he should resign.

Supposedly he is "Client 9" of the escort service. Paying for a call girl to meet him in DC for a tryst.

I understand that. I *think* I addressed that. IF he broke the law, he should be prosecuted and should not be entitled to hold the position of Govenor of the state of New York.
I'm going to say though that there are probably lawyers that have sought the companionship of a prostitute that are still practicing. Not sure how the Bar would treat him in this instance rather than some low profile Legal Aid lawyer or whathaveyou, but it'd be interesting to see the differences. his biggest problem is the Federal transport issue. if he got zapped b y NYPD...it may be a completely different story
I am restricted by my office myself in a lot of ways. We do have a higher standard that we have to adhere to as employees.
that being said, does the general public also hold certain people to a hire standard? should the punishment meted out be harsher to someone in Spitzer's position vs. someone driving a taxi (strictly in terms of hiring a prostitute)
