I feel so bad for everyone involved
What a tragedy!!!
I teach in Seaford. The traffic was so backup right outside of my classroom between 8-9 am this morning and I just got a bad, bad feeling
A colleague told me the news
I broke the story to my classes and made them promise they would never, ever cross Sunrise Hwy... no one knew the girl or the family but hopefully, at least some of them get the danger involved.

So sad!! But, I'm a little confused at why she would even have been crossing Sunrise Hwy so early in the morning. My aunt, with children in the middle school & high school, said that kids that live over there take the bus. My youngest cousin who is in the 8th grade knows the girls younger sister. Teachers in the HS were very upset today according to my other cousin.

How awful! That poor family, my heart goes out to them.
My mother has tried from time to time to take my kids for a walk and wants to cross Sunrise (Mass Park) and she acts like I am insane when I tell her no effing way. It pizzes me off bc she's makes it seem that somehow I am overreacting to the idea of a senior and any combo of 3 kids under 8 yrs old crossing Sunrise Hwy.

I read somewhere or saw on the news that she was supposed to walk to the bus stop and for some reason was crossing Sunrise. The Mom said she doesn't know why she didn't get on the bus and started to walk to school. She said she may have been trying to exert some independence.
It's just an awful story.

I heard she missed the bus and was trying to get to school herself. They have 3 other kids, 2 are too young for school and one is in 2nd grade. So sad.

regardless of why she was trying to cross Sunrise it's a horrible tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. They were dealing with one accident (the son) and now have this tragedy to deal with too.
I passed the intersection this morning and there are flowers & balloons all over the pole on the corner. There were a few people adding to them as I was driving by. I started to cry.
