Seriously today was the breaking point. IDK what the hell happened! she just whined, threw tantrums, wanted to be held, did NOT want her diaper changed the ENTIRE DAY. I gave her a bath before bed and she threw a fit when i tried getting her dressed. It was like she was possesed! omg i'm so glad she's sleeping now. idk where the hell she came from today

Re: Terrible 1's ?!?!?!?!
My DD is like this right now and it is driving me crazy. She barks orders at me like I am her servant. I think she learns this from her brother. She sees what she wants and repeatedly asks for it as her voice elevates to screaming. Then, I give it to her, she throws it on the floor and does it all over again. Add this to the fact that I cannot put her in anything - car seat, high chair, changing table etc. etc. w/o her screaming and fighting me oh and her 3 yr old brother who talks back like a teenager and it all makes for a very pleasant day

OMG im going through the same thing with DS!!! Hes just about 17 months and he'll be fine one second just playing and then suddenly will be laying on the floor screaming and throwing a tantrum! I'm so glad its not just my kid lol! Babycenter says this is the age where they want to make their own decisions...but if this is what age 1 is like then im terrified of the "terrible 2's"!!!!

Re: Terrible 1's ?!?!?!?!
one word RIE
Lucky me, I had terrible 8 months! No one would believe it, but DS was throwing himself on the floor arching his back, kicking screaming and hitting. Over every little thing. He's pretty normal developmentally, but I have to say he's advanced in tantrum throwing
I starting seriously reading "Happiest Toddler on the Block" and tried to apply the methods, they sort of work. You basically confirm the feelings of your child, using the same tone your child is using, and in a way they can easily understand in their state of crazy tantrum.... he calls it "toddler-ease" .. Keep doing this till they calm, when they do, explain and distract. It was sort of working, but I didn't like doing it, it felt weird, and it was so embarrassing to do in public when the tantrums seem to hit hardest.
I later found "Your Self Confident Baby" and RIE - I know I almost promised myself to cool it posting about RIE so much, but honestly RIE was magic on tantrums for us.
Respect your baby as you would another human, sounds silly, but honestly, its just a matter of communication and boundaries. RIE handles this beautifully and so gracefully. Similar in principle as Happiest Toddler on the Block, in that you come to the child's level, but in RIE you only ever speak to the child as if they were another intelligent adult. You distract, but not "oh quick! look over there!" kind of way, you basically say
"this is not for you, but you can choose do this or this" given the choice empowers the child and when your child trusts you, its like magic, its unbelievable how well it works for us.
Just tonight in the bath, "Noah, please sit down" "Noah, I really don't want you to stand, you will fall and get hurt, but you can sit down and play with the cups or you can splash" He sat down and splashed and all was calm. At 8m when I plopped him down to sit, he threw himself backwards into the water, submerged, scared the crap out of me and I cried all night over it, and was trying to think of how I can get away with never giving him a bath again.
At 11m, I rarely see tantrums anymore since started following RIE, my mother who insists on just distracting him with a cookie or a toy, see's them all day long and calls me to tell me to tell me my 11 month old has ADD, and is too demanding
"he's just a baby, he doesn't know better" I sincerely disagree, he knows a hell of a lot!
More info read this:
http://www.janetlansbury.com/2011/01/baby-discipline-person-to-person/
But the entire site is full of great articles that I think just gives great parenting advice.
Or, ignore me, and just go with what they say "Its just a phase"

I know I'll cool it I promise, I'm just super excited how well it works for us.
I know all babies all mommies are different, not all shoes fit, but I'm utterly impressed with it and enthused... sorry
Its not a cult, promise

This doesnt work every single time. Not when his back is arched, his eyes are shut and he's whining, he doesnt listen to what I'm saying.

Its more about how you take something away, he's whining for a reason, what happened prior?
for example, "This is a computer/phone/thing. But this is not your computer/phone/thing" "You have toys, you see your toys, you have X and Y" "The computer is not yours, you can't play with it, but you can play with X or Y, which one do you want?"
I have cheated RIE, and played a youtube video or two for DS, so its not like he's immune to this behavior I love the philosophy but I've never been the religious type.
oh and don't tell the RIE cult leader he'll have my head
