This doesnt work every single time. Not when his back is arched, his eyes are shut and he's whining, he doesnt listen to what I'm saying.

Its more about how you take something away, he's whining for a reason, what happened prior?

for example, "This is a computer/phone/thing. But this is not your computer/phone/thing" "You have toys, you see your toys, you have X and Y" "The computer is not yours, you can't play with it, but you can play with X or Y, which one do you want?"

Yep, I do that, I have always done that with him. Thats fine.

Its the getting in the highchair/carseat/stroller... then screeeaming when he's in.

I have cheated RIE, and played a youtube video or two for DS, so its not like he's immune to this behavior I love the philosophy but I've never been the religious type.

oh and don't tell the RIE cult leader he'll have my head Chat Icon

I always talk to my DD like she's a human and give her choices. She's a year old and really doesn't care to pay attention to the "choices" I give her. She has her good days and bad days. Today was just a very off day.

I'm sure your right! I don't know why this works so well for us, but I'm sorry to gloat so much, maybe it will kick me in the arse one day Chat Icon

Just wanted to add one more thing:
As for the carseat/stroller thing, that's not a matter of choice that's a clear boundary and that's something as a parent, a leader I set. "We are going to the car, and you will sit in the car seat, we can look for birds or we can sing in the car" Sit him down and if he's screaming, just calmly remind him "I need you to sit in the carseat and be calm, you will look at birds? or will you sing songs?" Still screaming, okay fine, "I see your screaming, I don't understand you when you scream, so I will look for birds on my own" forgot to add: Silence! I swear!
I don't know why its that easy, but it is for us.

is he a toy taker? or does he just hoard his own?

Really interesting perspective on this:

He does both. He takes and he hoards. I usually don't intervene, and if I do I tell the other kids to take their toy back Chat Icon

Chat Icon Poor sweet Adam. Evan is a bully. Soon the other kids will be as big as Evan and will be able to take their toys back. Won't that shock the sh!t out of Evan?

Adam's going to walk up to Evan one day and say "I see you want to play with my toy. You can play with this one. Now, if you don't give me my d@mn toy back..."

How's that for talking things out in the RIE way? Chat Icon
