I’m tired of all the lectures, the vaccine is out everyone who wants it, go run out and get it. But schools need to be freaking open already full time or by September. Enough already with hiding from this virus and looking for excuses. These kids and families, including myself who has access to resources, are suffering!
Idc about sports, parties, Broadway shows or concerts. I care about my sons development and what this is doing to him over a year later and at this point there is no reason for it.
Eta: good for other states who are using common sense combined with research/science and opening up.
I'm sure the 2021-2022 school year will be a normal. Many districts are already back 5 days even if not full time. September is a long way off and whether you want the vaccine or not, enough other people by then will be vaccinated so hopefully things in the fall are a lot more normal than they are now.
They said that about 2020-2021 and many kids are not back to school full time. Idk why people keep saying that. A hybrid model is not back to school and it’s mostly one or two days for people. Many Middle and high schools are not back. Stop saying many districts are back to full time.

Where did I say schools were open full time? My own district isn't even full time. While there are districts that aren't open for in person learning there are MANY that are. This school year is funky, everyone knew it would be because up until the vaccine rollout, nothing really had changed. September will be very different now that the vaccine is in play, I have no doubt.

I 100% agree people were kidding themselves and I said that back in June. But I think people are still kidding themselves if they think things will be normal in September if we keep going by this progression. Again my opinion and MANY schools are not open. I guess if we want to count 1 day a week then yes many are open.

The vaccine, whether you wish to acknowledge it or not, is a game changer. By September, the majority of the population will be vaccinated and that will definitely impact the spread and the severity should you catch it. Once people feel confident and safe, everything changes. Again, September is a long way off and this time, I'd be surprised if next school year was anything but normal.
Most schools that are open for in person learning at this time are more than a day a week. We started the year out at two days a week and now we're five, as data changed so did the school day. Most districts have been following the data and opening accordingly. That doesn't mean that ALL are but many have. Fall will be better for sure.

The only problem is that the health care community has no idea how long the vaccine will be effective for, although my pediatrician said yesterday that they do believe it is effective for at least 11 months.
I think that things will be almost back to normal by Sept. Our schools are phasing everyone back in full time by mid april. All three of my kids are now back at school full time which is amazing!

ANY protection is better than NO protection IMO so even if it's a only few months and then we need another shot, that's fine by me. After having to deal with this virus unvaccinated I'm not remotely inclined to want to do that again. It's been awful. Praying I have antibodies after this to carry me through until I can be vaccinated.
Glad your kids are back full time. We're five days but not full days, hopefully that changes soon.

I certainly hope we don't see spikes and I hope we see an end to this COVID nightmare soon. But that being said, don't let your guard down. Don't think for a minute that you're immune to this virus or that it's no big deal. Don't think that just because we're all tired of this pandemic that everything should just be open. We're close to normalcy but we're not there yet.
Both my DH and I are in the midst of dealing with COVID right now and it's EVERY bit as awful as they have said it is. Not knowing how you'll fare or what each day will bring is scary. Your body doesn't feel like your own and the days move by so slowly as you try to heal.
You don't want this virus so continue to do everything you can to protect yourself. They'll be plenty of time for concerts and sporting events and everything else. For now, just take care of you and yours, get your vaccine and keep up with all of the safety measures until we know for sure it's safe to live normally again. COVID really sucks, I hope to never have to go through this again.
I am so sorry to hear that. Hope you are feeling much better very soon. Your thoughts on this are important to hear.
Does my thoughts not matter since Covid barely effected me and I have a chronic respiratory disease? Or because I think states need to open up more as the risk of other lives are becoming greater than the virus?
Trying to figure if it’s only important to hear the things from people who agree with you. Seems like such a narrow minded thought process.

Sparing the jumbo quote. Agree with Hofstra. Vaccine is a game changer,. We are coming from behind now, trying to outpace spread. Vaccine production on a large scale couldn't start in earnest until companies got approval, and we didn't have infrastructure for the rollout they wanted initially. But we are learning and establishing inroads and now have time to produce boosters, etc. To outpace this. This doesn't mean that all will be perfect, but imo, the big picture looks bright. We can always look back and bemoan our unpreparedness and the poor leadership of politicians from both parties. Those things are undeniable. We should learn and move forward.

I hope so but just don’t have hope since it’s always something that comes up. I’m hoping the vaccine works but I have to see evidence not just theories of what scientists think. But only time will tell.
Eta: I’m also jealous of anyone who had their kids in school full time, so I dislike you greatly right now.
Kidding that’s awesome. I’m in a populated area so spacing is an issue but I think they should expand the # and keep masks. They have to start lifting some of these restrictions in schools so it’s possible for people to go back.

For the first time since this all started I feel hopeful. I think this year will be ending on a much better note than last. We know more now, we have the vaccine and hopefully soon the virus isn't this scary thing to fear but instead, just another virus that we're equipped to handle. I think for the time being we shouldn't let our guard down but brighter days are definitely ahead.

The good news is that schools didn't turn out to be the superspreader hot spots they thought they'd be. Now that we know that, I think most everyone will have the confidence in schools opening more going forward.

Neither. I am on Day 9 of COVID so I can't get the vaccine now for 90 days. In the meantime, hoping I test positive for antibodies in a few weeks.

Neither. I am on Day 9 of COVID so I can't get the vaccine now for 90 days. In the meantime, hoping I test positive for antibodies in a few weeks.
I was wondering if you were one of the unlucky people who got it before getting the second dose.
I would be so annoyed if I got the vaccine and then got Covid. I ended up getting it anyway but I think I would hide from the world if I got the vaccine. For me this is why i would get the JJ one if I get the vaccine.

I agree, I'd be annoyed if I was half vaccinated. Are you even protected without the second dose?
I guess the good news is that by the time I can get it it should be easier to get the appt. At least I hope so.
You had COVID? How was it for you?

ANY protection is better than NO protection IMO so even if it's a only few months and then we need another shot, that's fine by me. After having to deal with this virus unvaccinated I'm not remotely inclined to want to do that again. It's been awful. Praying I have antibodies after this to carry me through until I can be vaccinated.
Glad your kids are back full time. We're five days but not full days, hopefully that changes soon.
My whole family just had the antibody test and only my husband and son tested positive. My daughter and I who tested positive for Covid in January were negative for antibodies. We both had very mild cases so I guess that's why. My husband and son also had mild cases but they were definitely worse than us. Since you are so severe I am sure you will have antibodies. The pediatrician told me that even though my daughter and I don't show antibodies it doesn't mean we have no protection because your body still has an immune memory. The only problem is that we would probably test positive again. I will be getting the vaccine as soon as I qualify. Unfortunately I am in perfect health so I am unable to now! lol

This is not true now - they lifted the restriction so now your positive covid result does not matter. You can get it as soon as you qualify UNLESS you were treated with convalescent plasma.

You are about 65% protected after the first dose of pfizer and moderna.

Interesting. I have a friend that didn't test positive for the antibodies either but his girlfriend did. He said he had a milder case so as you mentioned, that could be why.
I don't feel that I had a severe case, more moderate. I had a lot of symptoms though. Sore throat, cough, aches, fatigue and the fevers were the worst. I also lost my smell and taste but fortunately, that seems to be coming back as of today.
I have an underlying issue so I was able to get the vaccine months ago however, getting an appointment was impossible and I didn't luck out before getting COVID. So frustrating.

The Dept of Health called us for contact tracing and specifically said we had to wait 90 days, our primary said the same. Is it different by state?

No, the DOH has misinformation. It's on the CDC website. In NY the state DOH and county DOH gave me completely opposite, contradictory information. The DOH just probably doesn't realize the restriction was lifted because they are so behind. Just schedule your vaccine and don't tell them you had covid.

You had COVID? How was it for you?
I had it about a month ago. Honestly, it was surprisingly mild, congestion. But no fever, my asthma was fine. I actually thought I didn’t have it because this is the first time my asthma wasn’t triggered. I’m usually sick for two weeks minimum. I was back to work after a week and that’s because my job made me take off a week. My husband had some body aches, and a slight cough. He was sick longer than he usually is but it was mild in comparison.
My son never got it, I basically ignored him and kept him confined to his room in which he didn’t do any of his school work. This was the worse part of Covid for me knowing he wasn’t doing what he was suppose to and I couldn’t hover over him.

Don't expect an answer to this....
