I love the Nature's Promise Organics from Stop & Shop. We use their pasta sauce and Soy milk all the time.

Also - Earth Balance Butter - It has no GMO's and tastes great.

I do a lot of my shopping at Wild By Nature and Stop and Shop.

This is a great thread!

I will be making my own baby food. We just joined an organic CSA farm to make it easier and more affordable to get organic vegetables this summer.

Golden Earthworm Organic Farm

They are in Jamesport and have drop off locations all over Long Island.

How does this work? I am so confused. Do you pay say $138 for the summer one and then on top of that pay for what you want?

Most of them yes. Last night I literally went through my fridge, cabinets and pantry to see the brands I buy. Then wrote them down, and looked for their websites online for all of you. The whole process took about 1.5 - 2 hours. But IMHO, it was worth it b/c if it helps someone switch to organic b/c it seems easier to have all the brands in one place and another mom can vouch for them...I know I would love a thread like this if I was just starting to switch over to organic.

I tried to remember what baby food we gave DD when she was eating it. I know we gave Earth's Best, Happy Times, Organic Baby and Happy Baby. We gave her organic formula, too. Now we give her organic whole milk, yoBaby yogurt, organic fruits, veggies, meats, bread, etc. The frozen stuff from Ian's, Annie's Homegrown, Amy's Kitchen now that she is a toddler is a GODSEND. Great for when I am in a pinch and she cannot wait foe me to cook dinner for all of us.

I hope this answers your question. Chat Icon

I use the biokleen all purpose cleaner or the Dierdre Imus Greening the cleaning stuff for DD's toys. Anything that is "plant derived" is great. The Imus stuff is use in pediatric cancer wards to prevent toxins from entering ton the bloodstreams of kids while in the hospital for chemo. That is good enough for me. Chat Icon

You pay for a share in the farm and each week you get a box of veggies. You can do vegetables alone or fruit too. The Vegetable share is about 26 weeks and the fruit share is about 13 weeks. As you are purchasing a share if it is a little risky if there is a bad year.

Ok. So I wash, brush, shampoo, clean with Organic. Drink organic milk, eat organic butter & eggs.

Now I have made the switch to organic fruits.

What else should I switch over to?

I have used their wipes and love them. The next baby I will be using the diapers as well.

I just stocked up already on so many Eckerds ones that it would be a shame to not use them.

I was thinking of switching, but wanted to make sure that the diapers don't leak and what not....I'm gonna try the wipes.

Oh, I didn't know about the Gerber freeze dried fruit. I've been so mad that they don't make Organic Puffs, didn't know what else to try with her. I'll have to check them out-- did you try them yet?

Also, did you try the diaper rash cream? I rarely need it on DD and have been using A&D because that's what we had and it didn't bother her, but I'd love to switch to organic.

I use plain old vasiline or triple paste when she has a bad rash. HTH

Honestly, I look for "paraben free" stuff that is body care/cleaners and IO look them up on skin deep. Triple paste as rated as a "1"; while California Baby diaper cream was a "3", so you have to look it up and read the labels on everything. On food items I look for "natural, antibiotic free, grain feed, free range" that stuff.

AND the best rule of thumb...
If I can't pronounce more than a 1/4 of the ingredients and never heard of them, I don't but it. BUT I will be with a pen and small note pad and jot down the ingredient and look it up online. Then, if it is OK I may buy it next time. I READ EVERY LABEL. It takes me 2 hours to shop, but once I like something and know it is safe, then I buy it with out reading the label.
That system has never failed me. Most of the time when I look up ingredients I decide that I should not buy that item b/c of one or two crazy things in it that have been liked to cancer, infertility, etc.

For instance...
I was in WalMart today. They have the TOM's of Maine toothpaste and mouthwash there. Now this stuff is "natural" not organic. I looked at the label and there was not one thing that I have not heard of and I purchased it. Now if you look at listerine or crest...now that is some scary shite. If I like the tom's of maine stuff, I will buy it again and it will take 2 seconds instead of 5 minutes reading the label.

Does this make sense?

ETA: Vasiline has worked great for Gracie and is rated "0" on skin deep. Plus, it is less expensive than all the other stuff out there. Switching to Organic or natural products DOES NOT have to cost more or be more expensive. All you have to be is informed. look

Re: The Official Organic Moms Thread

I didn't see it mentioned.. (unless i missed it) but I've started using Dr. Bronners castile soap, which is organic. I got some for me, and some baby unscented for DD. So far so good.
Dr. Bronners also has an all purpose cleanser, but I haven't tried that yet.

I'm slowly trying to switch most of our stuff to organic. I've also started using the "oil cleansing method" to clean my face. Castor oil and sunflower oil. another so far so good.

Any recommended deoderants? I've tried the cotton one from Trader Joes and it seems to work pretty well.

How about hair products?

Yes, thank you!! I will pick up one of them. What brand Vaseline though? I have a hard time finding one w/o fragrance, etc.

BTW, I LOVE this thread, so informative & helpful!!! Chat Icon
