Those that read Healthy Sleep Habits...re: 1-2 hour window
Okay, so i know that newborns need to get down to a nap after about 1-2 hours of wakeful time or else they will start to get overtired.
But, my question is when does that 1-2 period actually end where they can stay up for longer periods of time without getting overtired. DS will be 5 weeks on monday. It doesnt say it in the book. That book is sometimes confusing.

I did it for a long time. I want to say stopped that between 10 & 12 months. It seemed to start my kids routine and it stuck.

It was a long time....months actually.
ETA: And I believe the book will tell you that as you keep reading the age groups. They break it down by what you should be doing (looking for) at the certain months.

Re: Those that read Healthy Sleep Habits...re: 1-2 hour window
My DD is 13.5 months old and her morning nap is still 2 hours from the time she gets up. After her am nap she stays up for 2 hours also and then takes her afternoon nap. After that she stays up til bedtime.

i actually think 5 weeks is a little too young for any type of sleep pattern per se

5 weeks is early for a schedule, but you will notice a pattern to their sleep behavior. They may not sleep at the same times each day, but that 1-2 hour window will be there.
