Tipping Sanitation men/ Mailman, Cleaning lady

Not sure what the right amount is to tip.
What are you tipping your sanitation men/ Mailmen?

For those of you with cleaning ladies, what are you tipping? I have two and pay them $90 a week to clean.

Oh no! The annual tip thread! Chat Icon As a Federal employee, the mailman is not allowed to accept a tip. Only Long Island do people seem to tip sanitation workers, it seems as if it's become a bribe to pick up larger items throughout the year? I argue about this with my Dad every year "but if I give them a tip they'll take furniture when I throw it out!" "Dad, that's not a tip, that's a bribe..."

I love OOS and don't tip either of them.

I'd tip the cleaning lady though if they've been with you for awhile.

This is what we do.

We tipped the sanitation guys the first few years we were in our house but then we started finding our cans in the middle of the street so we stopped.

We tip the cleaning lady the equivalent of one service.

I plan on giving the UPS guy something this year. I feel like he's practically lived at my house this year since I signed up for Amazon Prime! Probably a $20 DD giftcard like the mailman.

This. Not sure of the exact $ amount bc DH usually takes care of it. But I would def tip my mailman. He goes out of his way to leave packages on our back porch when it's raining (we have no awning in the front).

The sanitation workers actually leave us a Christmas card in our mailbox each year before Christmas, with their names on it. It's one of those double sided large business cards that clubs leave on your car...I feel it is their way of asking for a tip. They come at 5:00am and I never see them. So I wouldn't care if DH tipped them or not.

We do not tip the mailman or sanitation and we do not have a cleaning lady. If I did have a cleaning lady would give her an extra week of pay.

We do not tip any of the above. We only small gift cards to our children's teachers as a thank you. Tipping is not something I'm willing to shell out more money for TBH

We don't tip and sanitation takes everything we put outside. Some People think that if they tip, they get some kind of preferential treatment.

Yep. We never tip and they take ALL our crap and we have a LOT of garbage- especially this year with a lot of DIY renovations DH did.
It's kind of...um.... their job.

Our paper delivery man also leaves a card. So tacky to ask for a tip IMO

We tip the mail man $20 and each sanitation worker $20. The paper guy gets $20 as well.

For the cleaning lady, it's customary to tip one weeks cleaning but, I don't know if I am going to do that because it cost me one weeks cleaning to fix the vacuum cleaner that she broke.

We tip the mail man @ 30$---or however generous I'm feeling-- because we literally have a 120lb dog that barks like a maniac every time he steps on our property. I feel like it's hazardous duty pay. Chat Icon

Right? It's very tacky, IMO. And we tip them anyway, so I feel like the card is unnecessary bc people who tip are gonna tip, and people who don't aren't going to just bc you left a card in their mailbox.

Plus, how much are they spending on the cards? Almost seems counter-productive!

Haven't had a steady mailman in years so I don't tip. They also give my mail to my neighbor all the time so they'd have to fix that before I tip, lol. Also, I'm in NYC so our sanitation workers are not allowed to accept tips. There was just a story last year about 2 sanitation employees who were fired for accepting a $10 tip. I am a city employee myself and I would not want to put them in that situation, not to mention I could get in trouble for it. It's too bad because I would like to tip them a little something but...

Now my UPS guy gets a nice tip because I do a lot of online shopping Chat Icon

I just left the post office 2yr ago when I had my twins. I had my own route in levittown. I would say more then half of people tip & the average is $25.
It's nice to be appreciated. It's also nice to offer water in summer when very hot.

My friend is a mail carrier and will not accept monetary tips as he is not supposed to.
