You don't tip people during this time of the year based on their salary. You tip people because you appreciate all the hard work that they do and you want to wish them a happy holiday, new year etc. Slurpee dad The fact u would tip your sanitation men more than the teachers that care for your childrens education, safety, well being during a majority of their day is laughable. Its also pretty sad to give a tip or present based on their seethruny salary status IMO.

The idea of TIPPING a teacher is laughable.

Nobody TIPS a teacher in the general sense of the word but many give small gifts to show their appreciation for a job well done with their children.

Wait until you have to give your kids, your babies and your whole world, over to be in someone else's care all day. You'll be singing a different tune about a teaches worth at that point and it will have NOTHING to do with what some stupid website says their salary is.

Just sayin.

Semantics.

Tips have gotten out of control. It is no longer about giving a little something to show your appreciation. It has become expected. For example, the garbagemen put a card in our mailbox saying I know that you may not see us so here is my home address that you can send checks to.... Yeah nice try!

I know...I think it is crazy that they do that, but we usually tip our garbagemen. We live in a cul de sac, and they are great about what they take. They are slo so nice to my one son who has Autism. He is obsessed with the garbage man and let him sit inside. The smile that came from my son's face was priceless. They honk their horn for him evertime he is outside Chat Icon

That is amazing that they are so good with your son. I also live in a cul de sac and they are AWEFUL.... My garbage pales are always upside down, thrown around and they never take anything!

I would like to add that it is well documented that Slurpee dad is very envious of teachers salaries, schedules, pensions etc. He rues the day he decided NOT to be a teacher, he is your classic "HATER" Chat Icon Chat Icon I feel sorry for your kids, your total lack of respect for teachers is sure to rub off on them and do them no service as student.

Is that what teachers teach their students? If someone doesn't agree with you they must be jealous and therefore a "HATER." Sounds like a bang up job being done. My children will show respect to their teachers because that is what we teach at my house. While I may not agree with certain financials that go on in the educational system that does not mean I do not respect the job that teachers do. I can separate the two, obviously you can not.

BTW...I gave a small gift to show my sanitation men how much we appreciate the hard work that they do, day in and day out.

Who said my path is less lucrative? I have the right to my opinion, that doesn't mean I am jealous. If you really want to have this conversation, I would be happy to have it. I just got my tax bill so I am ready to go.

NOT interested in having this conversation, have had it with you and seen you have it with others at least 20 times, somehow you turn many threads that have NOTHING to do with teachers--like this one--into a forum to discuss how they are overpaid.

I find it hard to believe that your children won't overhear one of your rants and feel that their tax dollars are being misspent on their teachers--but maybe I am wrong and you only talk about this on here so your kids will never overhear you at a BBQ or something bashing educators, I hope so, bc it is a pretty tacky thing to do, over and over and over again.

The reason I say you are jealous and are on a less lucrative path is bc unless you feel teachers are getting something you are not why the animosity?

Have a happy holiday in any event.

I will have a Merry Christmas, thank you. I think there are more people on this board that agree with me but don't want to ruffle the teacher's feathers.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Shouldn't you e posting on like a car enthusiast board, or sports or some shit like that? Here's a tip, this board is all women. Maybe there's a board more suited for you on the web somewhere. A man arguing with a bunch of women on a predominantly 99% women occupied message board is weird.

Is this a real comment? I thought this was a Long Island Families Board. I think this board is suited for me just fine, a board about the topics that pertain to me on Long Island. I didn't realize there was a bunch of sexist women on here that think men should only talk about sports and cars.

Well suited for you? Last time I checked people who send people nasty FM calling them "out of their mind" generally get banned so this might not be as we'll suited for you as you think. Sad a man has so much time on his hands to bash educators and then inbox women nasty messages, get a real job like the teachers you loathe

Tipping Sanitation men/ Mailman, Cleaning lady

When did this thread turn into tipping teachers? Why does everything turn into a teacher debate?

Back to the question, I tip the sanitation workers because I leave a lot of crap out and they take it all the time when sometimes they probably shouldn't, so it's like a Thank you to them.

I do not tip the mailperson because they do nothing out of the ordinary for me that would warrant a tip.

I do not tip my hairdresser because I tip when I go and generously. I personally do not see the need for a gift unless I was friendly with them.

I do give a little gift to the bank teller because she is super nice to my DD and teaches her about money and counting money when we go.

My general thoughts are that if you do something above and beyond your job duties, regardless of your salary, then I will tip you or give you a holiday gift. If you do not then I do not see the need.

I can imagine how much slurpee dad's kids must act up in class and then he makes sure to blame the teachers for it. Parent teacher conferences must be a delight. Chat Icon

Completely uncalled for. As a professional educator/behavior consultant I find it amazing that you would call a child (who you have never met) a little shitt. May God bless all the children you have to deal with.

I am pretty certain that a teacher wouldn't want your tip anyhow. Sounds like you don't appreciate much so you wouldn't know what to give. Save your $2 and move on...Chat Icon I am not a teacher, I just know a cheapskate when I listen to one. Please, save the semantics and step off your soapbox of who to tip.
